On September 27, Downeast CU celebrated the grand opening of its new branch located at 460 Wilson Street in Brewer with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Brewer Mayor Michele LaBree Daniels joined city councilors, representatives from the Brewer’s Economic Development department, community members, and credit union staff for the special ceremony.
With the opening of the Brewer branch, the credit union has closed its 24 Springer Drive location in Bangor. The new branch includes a two-lane drive-thru, interior ATM, large conference room space, two expert care offices for new accounts and loans, and a welcome lobby, offering even more ways to serve the community at large.
“Compared to our previous submarket in Bangor, the Brewer submarket offers a forty percent increase in the number of households, while at the same time maintaining a robust business and employment sector,” stated Joe Moses, President/CEO of Downeast CU. “With this new location, we will be able to cater to a larger number of community members, as well as offer more affordable borrowing options and specialized assistance. We are a locally owned and operated business in Downeast Maine, and we are dedicated to making positive contributions to our communities so that they can become healthier and more vibrant.”
Downeast CU has been serving members since the organization was founded in 1941 as St. Croix FCU and celebrated its 80th anniversary last year. Over the years, the credit union has expanded its geographic reach and now serves over 22,000 members across eight locations in Maine.
“Our team of employees is proud to serve our membership and remains a trusted source for the Downeast region’s banking and insurance needs,” shared Jessica Raymond, Downeast CU Branch Manager. “We look forward to sharing the excitement of our new location with the Brewer community.”
