Downeast CU Branch Manager Receives Volunteer Award

Kaileigh Deacon, Downeast CU Branch Manager in Calais, receives the Arlo T. Bates Award for volunteerism from Taylor McIver at the 76th Annual Meeting of the St. Croix Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Downeast CU is pleased to share that Calais Branch Manager Kaileigh Deacon has received the 2024 Arlo T. Bates Award for Volunteerism from the St. Croix Valley Chamber of Commerce.

On Friday, November 22, the St. Croix Valley Chamber of Commerce celebrated the region’s achievements and community spirit at its 76th Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet. The event is held each year to celebrate local businesses, community leaders, and dedicated volunteers in the Calais region.

The prestigious Arlo T. Bates Award was presented to Deacon as a highlight at the banquet. The award is presented to a volunteer in recognition of their time and effort dedicated towards serving and improving the quality of life in the St. Croix Valley. The award honors the life of area businessman, Arlo T. Bates, who owned the Bates Jewelry Store and was active for many years in community events and fundraisers.

“Kaileigh has dedicated over 100 hours of volunteerism in the past 24-months,” states Joseph Moses, President and CEO at Downeast CU. “She carries on the Arlo T. Bates spirit of volunteerism and dedicates time each week to making the St. Croix region a better place to live and work. We are so fortunate to have Kaileigh on the Downeast team dedicating her talent and treasure in our community.”

Deacon is passionate about financial education and has designed her own game show to help educate area students on the importance of establishing smart financial habits. Organizations that she is involved with include the St. Croix Chamber of Commerce; Children’s Miracle Network; Maine Credit Unions’ Financial Fitness Fair; WCCC Financial Education; Passamaquoddy Health Center Health Fair; Alzheimer’s Association; Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger; and many other festivals and parades.

She was truly humbled to be recognized for this award and is already adding to her volunteerism hours by coordinating a parade float, holiday window art, and a food drive for the local food pantry.

Congratulations, Kaileigh!
