Downeast CU and Insurance successfully completed the first season of its Downeast Dunkers program, raising over $23,000 for five Maine schools throughout the basketball season. Participating schools included Calais Middle/High School, Machias Memorial High School, Mount View High School, Richmond Middle/High School, and Washington Academy.
The Downeast Dunkers program featured a variety of fun and engaging activities to build school spirit and raise funds. Fans participated in a ball toss fundraiser, aiming to land a ball in a wagon pulled by the mascot on the court for a chance to win a $100 gift card. Downeast also created custom t-shirts and coordinated t-shirt tosses between quarters to excite fans. Additionally, varsity student athletes contributed by earning $1 for every free-throw made during the season.
“We loved collaborating with the students, whether it was designing and updating fundraising tracking charts, building t-shirt launchers, or fostering school pride through the program,” added Stacy Johansen, Downeast Insurance President.
Schools used the funds and in-kind donations to purchase warm-up uniforms, concession supplies, and other booster needs.
“Our team is proud to have partnered with these schools and boosters programs in our first year with Downeast Dunkers,” said Joe Moses, Downeast CU President/CEO. “The Dunkers program was designed to align with our mission, vision, and values. Our vision is not only to enhance the wealth of our members, but also the communities we serve. We take immense pride in supporting area kids and their schools, as we know it makes our regions stronger. Downeast looks forward to growing the Dunkers program and partnerships in future years.”
