Last week, nearly 20 credit union professionals and officials from Maine CUs traveled to Denver, Colorado, to attend the America's Credit Union Conference (ACUC) put on by the Credit Union National Association's (CUNA). Response from many of the attendees contacted reported that the Conference gave "us a lot to think about with regards to technology, cybersecurity, and growth. The topics were certainly timely."
A wide range of national and world-renowned speakers addressed the four-day conference including CUNA President/CEO, Jim Nussle. He explained, "Working with our state partners, we are unleashing a 360-degree advocacy approach to create awareness not just with legislators but with consumers, too. Credit unions need to break through the information glut to engage the general public. The central element of creating awareness is telling the credit union story."
Maine attendees attended many of the Conference's breakout sessions that dealt with subjects ranging from attracting millennials to the credit union mission, to how to compete with new players in the lending market, to how to operate a sustainable small credit union.
Jim Lemieux, President/CEO of Sebasticook Valley FCU and League Board Chair, found the Conference worthwhile. "The conference offered some very timely information and thought provoking ideas, and the combination of the ACUC and the World Council together was a unique gathering of credit union professionals from all over the world and it was interesting to hear their thoughts on the challenges of the day."
