
Communities were lucky this March as they received a wide range of strong support from credit unions across the state. Between charity fundraisers, member-focused events, awards and certifications, fraud prevention efforts, and much more, there was hardly a dull moment. Below, our League offers an inside look at what some of Maine’s credit unions were up to in the month of March.
- March was an exciting month for Acadia FCU, who opened two new branches in Brewer and Presque Isle—growing with the communities they serve.
- Ancorum CU presented a donation of more than $1,100 to United Way of Southern Maine’s KeepMEWarm fund to help provide emergency heating assistance to Maine families.
- Atlantic FCU shared an exciting update following their February pledge to donate $50 to Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger for every new account opened throughout the month. In total, $11,400 was raised to fight food insecurity!
- Bangor FCU gave Monty Moose youth account holders a chance to win a $25 Visa gift card if they submitted their completed “Moose on the Loose” quarterly worksheet to any branch before the end of the month.
- To help increase the success of the Bangor Chapter of Credit Unions’ upcoming CU4Kids Colors for a Cause 5K, Brewer FCU invited community members to sign up for a fun-filled day for a great cause.
- Capital Area FCU was excited to announce they received the 2026 Newsweek Best Regional Banks & Credit Unions Award. Congratulations, Capital Area!
- Patty, Ayden, and Alicia from Casco FCU volunteered time at Good Shepherd Food Bank sorting and packing items to support local pantries and families. Together, they processed 5,234 pounds of food, which will provide 4,489 meals!
- Central Maine FCU held their Annual Meeting at the Hilton Garden Inn in Auburn, celebrating their 75th anniversary with members.
- In their winter newsletter, Coast Line CU encouraged qualifying members to apply for one of their scholarships in support of higher education.
- On Friday, March 6, Community CU hosted members at Titcomb Mountain for a free ski night.
- The Literary Volunteers of Kennebec County received a $2,000 donation from Connected CU to support kids in Kennebec County.
- A team of employees from cPort CU offered a helping hand to Preble Street, preparing meals to be delivered to those in need.
- Online, Cumberland County FCU continued their Fraud Awareness Wednesday segment, posting timely and important information to help members detect fraud.
- Dirigo FCU invited members to save the date for their 70th Annual Meeting, taking place on April 26.
- Downeast CU’s Downeast Dunkers program was a major success. The credit union celebrated $5,223 raised at Richmond High School alone.
- Sarah’s House of Maine received a $3,000 contribution from Eastmill FCU to help increase access to care for Maine cancer patients.
- With Tax Day on the horizon, Empeople CU took to social media to inform members how to spot and report an IRS tax scam.
- Evergreen CU donated $4,000 to Greater Portland NEMBA to purchase a two-wheel all-terrain vehicle to assist with mountain bike trail maintenance throughout southern Maine.
- March 27 brought Member Appreciation Day to Gardiner FCU, who celebrated with breakfast items, snacks, and free swag.
- Great Falls FCU alerted members of many kinds of scams, including tax refund scams, IRS impersonations, and gift card scams.
- It’s official! HRCU earned the BankSafe Trained Seal for educating their frontline staff using AARP’s BankSafe training.
- Katahdin FCU sponsored an Easter basket raffle to benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
- KSW FCU facilitated a 50/50 raffle fundraiser in their Waterville and Belfast branches to benefit Special Olympics Maine and the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
- Bunny Bucks returned to KV FCU, offering the perfect Easter gift to members while supporting the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
- The Portland Sea Dogs’ very own Slugger visited Lighthouse CU’s Westbrook branch, counting down the days until the season’s start. Lighthouse is excited to serve as the presenting sponsor of the 2026 Portland Sea Dogs season.
- Lincoln Maine FCU recognized Slam the Scam Day with a special branch setup, which included popcorn for members and ample great information about common scams, warning signs to be on the lookout for, and what to do if targeted.
- Lisbon Community FCU sold chocolate bars for the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
- March was full of community engagement for Maine Family FCU. Throughout the month, they helped with the Special Olympics Maine award ceremonies at Lost Valley, had conversations about saving and financial stability with students at Thomas J. McMahon Elementary School, and sponsored and attended the YWCA Central Maine Women of Achievement event.
- To raise money for hungry Mainers in need, Maine Highlands FCU members voted with their dollars for the employees they’d most like to see pied in the face. The fundraiser was a great success, raising nearly $2,900.
- In March, Maine Savings FCU employee Theresa Voisine celebrated 40 years with the credit union. In those four decades, she built a legacy of dedication, curiosity, and commitment. Theresa is a valued resource and friend, and her team is thankful to have her working alongside them. Congratulations on this accomplishment, Theresa!
- Maine State CU hosted their annual Ending Hunger Breakfast at the end of March, distributing $111,596.58 to more than 30 hunger-relief organizations across the state.
- Midcoast FCU continued their tradition of volunteering time to prepare meals for Freeport Community Services’ First Friday Free Lunch Program. This time, Chandra, Nadia, Tena, and Emma made a delicious meal of chili and cornbread.
- Milestones FCU encouraged members to join them for their April 8 Annual Meeting.
- In anticipation of the Easter holiday, New Dimensions FCU hosted an Easter Basket Raffle in Skowhegan and Waterville. Ticket sales benefited the Campaign for Ending Hunger and Special Olympics Maine.
- March was a special celebratory month for the team at NorState FCU, who honored their 85th anniversary. Happy 85 years, NorState!
- OTIS FCU hosted members for Snacks & Scams, where they facilitated a learning session on red flags, how to stay protected, and what to do if scammed.
- Oxford FCU partnered with Region 9 to offer the first of three free educational fraud prevention classes.
- Member Ski Day arrived for PeoplesChoice CU, who gathered with the community at Saddleback Mountain for a great day on the slopes complete with pizza, cookies, and raffles.
- A spring bake sale to support Special Olympics Maine occurred at Sabattus Regional CU.
- On St. Patrick’s Day, Saco Valley CU hosted a Dine to Donate event at Texas Roadhouse in Scarborough. During the event, 10% of food purchases supported the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
- Seaboard FCU’s first-ever Cornhole Tournament to benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger was a huge success thanks to many participants and supporters.
- The Campaign for Ending Hunger saw support from Sebasticook Valley FCU as they ran a Feeling Lucky Sweepstakes through March 17—encouraging members to “turn a little gold into a lot of good.”
- The County FCU announced they are now an official partner of the Portland Hearts of Pine.
- More than a dozen Town & Country FCU staff members plus their families participated in the 28th annual Mary’s Walk on Sunday, March 29th in Saco. In addition to being a lead sponsor, Town & Country’s team raised more than $1,300, collectively donating $6,300 to support the work of Maine Cancer Foundation.
- Trademark FCU spent time at the MaineHealth Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital Cares for Kids Radiothon, enjoying the opportunity to be part of such a meaningful event to uplift kids and families.
- TruChoice FCU donated $3,000 to the Maine Blue Collar Scholarship Foundation to support students pursuing skilled trades.
- Over $7,700 was raised at University CU’s first Bingo to End Hunger event!
- Winthrop Area FCU expanded their field of membership to include individuals and businesses living, working, or attending school or worship in Androscoggin, Franklin, Kennebec, Lincoln, Sagadahoc, Somerset, and Waldo Counties.
