CU News & Events – June Edition

Despite months of rainy weekends, Maine’s credit unions kicked off summer with a bang. From member appreciation events to a wide range of fundraisers, credit unions ensured support for their community was a top priority. Our League provides a snapshot of how our credit unions displayed the People Helping People philosophy through the month of June.

  • On June 14, Acadia FCU hosted their first-ever kickball tournament to raise funds for the Campaign for Ending Hunger. It was so successful that the team is planning another tournament that will take place during the Acadian Festival in Madawaska this August. 
  • Atlantic FCU challenged members to “Swipe Out Hunger” with their debit cards one million times collectively throughout the month of June. The credit union pledged a $30,000 donation to the Campaign for Ending Hunger if members hit the goal. 
  • Bangor FCU wrapped up a fundraiser for Special Olympics Maine, where members could provide either a $3 or $5 donation and “light a torch” of their own in support of athletes in the local community. 
  • Brewer FCU served as a sponsor of the Brewer Riverwalk Festival on June 7. 
  • Capital Area FCU served as a sponsor of the Nest at Natanis Golf Tournament to benefit Messalonskee High School.
  • Members were celebrated by Casco FCU at a special barbecue on June 25, complete with a delicious dinner from Bald Mountain BBQ. 
  • On their website, Central Maine FCU alerted members about text scams and what to do if they receive one. 
  • Alicia and Betsy from Community CU offered financial resources at the Neighborworks Block Party at Community Concepts. 
  • Connected CU collected donations for PALS No-Kill Cat Shelter. The shelter is facing significant need for both funds and supplies to support the cats waiting on their forever homes. 
  • cPort CU welcomed seven summer interns aboard, serving in areas from branch operations to lending and payments. Welcome, Annaliese, Brady, Contessa, Flynn, Hayden, Isaac, and Owen! 
  • As text scams become more common, Cumberland County FCU shared information on fraudulent Maine DMV texts circulating to help protect their members.
  • Dirigo FCU’s first Disc Golf Tournament was a a success! More than $1,000 was raised for the Campaign for Ending Hunger. 
  • Carol and Stacy from the Downeast CU and Insurance team presented a $1,000 donation to the Richmond Recreation Department to help uplift the area’s community and recreation programs. 
  • On social media, Eastmill FCU celebrated employee Patti Smith’s 2025 Jeannette G. Morin Award for Outstanding Credit Union Employee win from the League’s annual awards ceremony at Elevate, sharing her excellence with their members. 
  • Empeople CU recognized National Homeownership Month by sharing tips and tricks for current and prospective homeowners, ensuring financial success stays top-of-mind. 
  • Evergreen CU presented the Circle 1 Maine Classic at Devils Grove Disc Gold, Sabattus Disc Golf, and Pineland Farms. 
  • To raise money for the Campaign for Ending Hunger, Five County CU branches sold tickets for a full month of prize drawings. 
  • Franklin-Somerset FCU awarded scholarships to four graduating seniors from Mt. Abram, Mt. Blue, Carrabec, and Skowhegan High Schools; contributed to Stratton’s Girls Talk/Teen Voices; sponsored two summer reading programs for two local libraries; and donated to Franklin/Somerset County Literacy Volunteer’s Capital campaign! 
  • Gardiner FCU began selling silicone Ending Hunger bracelets for $2 each, with all proceeds going to the Campaign for Ending Hunger. 
  • Staff at HRCU enjoyed a spirited Member Appreciation Week, with themed days and a full slate of activities for all ages. 
  • At the Katahdin Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting, Katahdin FCU was honored with the Katahdin Chamber of Commerce’s 2025 Business of the Year award. The credit union also awarded $9,500 in high school scholarships to graduating seniors. Congratulations, team Katahdin!
  • KSW FCU entered a team in the Bowl for a Cause event at Interstate Bowling, raising funds for Salvation Army summer camps. 
  • KV FCU celebrated dads ahead of Father’s Day, handing out branded KV FCU koozies as a token of appreciation. 
  • Lighthouse CU announced $53,000 was awarded in scholarships to 16 incredible students for the 2025-2026 school year. 
  • On June 12, Lincoln Maine FCU held a Yard and Bake Sale for their scholarship fund. 
  • Lisbon Community FCU spread awareness of National Hunger Awareness Month and collected donations for the Campaign for Ending Hunger. 
  • Maine Family FCU sponsored and participated in Tree Street Youth’s 5th Annual Celebratory March. 
  • Heart of Maine Resource Center in Dexter received a $25,000 donation from the team at Maine Highlands FCU. 
  • Bill Pelkey from Maine Savings FCU was promoted to Senior Vice President of Facilities due to his deep commitment, leadership, and expertise brought to the credit union. Congratulations, Bill! 
  • Maine State CU invited members to enjoy hot dogs, burgers, and more on June 12, with all proceeds benefitting their Backpacks 4 ME program. 
  • Midcoast FCU’s 5th Annual Bags & Brews Cornhole Tournament took place on June 12. 
  • Milestones FCU was pleased to announce it is once again offering skip-a-loan payments to qualified members this summer.
  • June 7 featured New Dimensions FCU’s annual Cruisin’ for a Cure Car Show to support the Maine Children’s Cancer Program. 
  • NorState FCU kicked off another season of Music in the Park at Bicentennial Park in Madawaska. 
  • With their passion for helping preserve local history, OTIS FCU donated $2,500 to the Canton Maine Historical Society to maintain the Grange Hall, which was built in 1897. 
  • Through Oxford FCU’s partnership with JMG, $500 scholarships were given to graduates from four different local schools. 
  • PeoplesChoice CU had a blast in the annual La Kermesse Franco-Americaine Festival parade in Biddeford. 
  • Sabattus Regional CU moved into a temporary branch outside their front door as they began renovations to their building. 
  • Saco Valley CU served as the presenting sponsor of the 54th Annual Saco Arts Festival. 
  • Michelle, Chad, and Janet celebrated work anniversaries at Seaboard FCU! They reached 32 years, ten years, and two years respectively. Congratulations!
  • Sebasticook Valley FCU hosted an NBA draft watch party in Newport, cheering on local star Cooper Flagg. The credit union sold lemonade for the Campaign for Ending Hunger. 
  • The County FCU put on a 2025 scholarship recipient dinner to recognize the hard work, dedication, and bright futures of local students. The Board of Directors and members of the management team joined recipients. 
  • A group of Town & Country FCU employees raised their hammers on June 12 to participate in an all-women company build at the new Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland Sunset Avenue housing development in South Portland. 
  • Trademark FCU sponsored Portland’s Pride Parade this year and looks forward to showing their support again next year. 
  • In honor of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, TruChoice FCU shared information about signs to look out for and ways to prevent exploitation. 
  • UCU staff volunteered in the souvenir tent at the Special Olympics Summer Games, hosted at the University of Maine in Orono. 
  • As a fundraiser for their Community Fund, Winthrop Area FCU hosted a Griddle Raffle.
