CU News & Events – June Edition


The heat was on this June for our credit unions! From monthlong efforts to fundraise for the $100,000 Ending Hunger Challenge to joining their communities for local events and celebrations, our credit unions showed up with the People Helping People spirit. The League provides a snapshot of what some of our credit unions were up to last month:

  • Acadia FCU welcomed Courtney Gervais as the new Stillwater Avenue Branch Manager. Welcome, Courtney!
  • Using part of the funds they raised last year for the Campaign for Ending Hunger, Atlantic FCU donated $4,800 to the Westbrook Food Pantry.
  • In advance of Amazon Prime Day happening on July 12, Bangor FCU shared shopping scams members should look out for.
  • Brewer FCU extended a thanks to their Supervisory Committee for their hard work and commitment to the credit union community.
  • At their annual yard sale, Capital Area FCU raised $1,300 for Special Olympics.
  • On June 18, Casco FCU held a car wash in support of the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Changing Seasons FCU held a Father’s Day giveaway on Facebook. Participants simply had to explain why their dad is special for a chance to win a $150 gift card and a $50 Dick’s Sporting Goods gift card.
  • Coastline CU shared information on their website about their scholarship application, which is due by July 1.
  • Community CU members came together to put the students at Washburn School first by outfitting bicycles and helmets to kick the summer off strong. This was done as part of the credit union’s Adopt-A-School initiative.
  • Connected CU educated members about check fraud and scams to lookout for in their June blog.
  • cPort CU contributed an article to Amjambo Africa, a newspaper dedicated to celebrating diversity in Maine and welcoming New Mainers. The article discussed lenders and credit.
  • The team from Cumberland County FCU was spotted at Westbrook Together Days handing out freebies and interacting with the community.
  • Dirigo FCU showed their support for the Maine Credit Unions’ $100,000 Challenge and encouraged members to do the same.
  • For the Bike Rodeo, Downeast CU and Downeast Insurance donated a bike, helmet, and knee pads to the Richmond Police Department, who put on the event for local children. One of Downeast CU’s younger members ended up winning the bike!
  • Evergreen CU supported the Ales for Tails event on June 26.
  • Five County CU wrapped up their second quarter charity fundraisers to benefit Little Angels Service Dogs.
  • In their newsletter, Franklin-Somerset FCU shared tips for avoiding identity theft.
  • Gardiner FCU began selling $10 Cash Calendars in their branches with winners to be drawn in the month of August. All proceeds will benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Great Falls Regional FCU announced its participation in the Shared Branching network!
  • Infinity CU announced its sponsorship of the Scarborough Community Chamber of Commerce’s Concerts in the Park. Shows will run on Free Concert Thursdays from June 30 to August 4.
  • On June 25 and 26, KSW FCU served as the Platinum Sponsor of the Arts in the Park festivities in Belfast. The weekend held live music, food vendors, and plenty of creativity sprinkled throughout featured arts and crafts.
  • KV FCU continued sharing financial advice on social media for Tip Tuesday.
  • Lincoln Maine FCU maintained positive, fun relationships with their members online by sharing riddles at the end of the week for Friday Fun.
  • In anticipation of the launch of their new website in August, Lisbon Community FCU asked for entries to their photography contest to help feature local talent in their new online look.
  • Maine Family FCU CEO Rachel Caron has officially retired. Thank you, Rachel, for your years of dedicated service to your members and for carrying out the People Helping People mission.
  • Maine Highlands FCU continued preparations for their upcoming Yard Sale for Ending Hunger. The special event is happening on July 16.
  • Vivian Gresser celebrated 25 years of volunteer service on the Maine Savings FCU Board of Directors. Thank you for your dedication to serve the credit union and its members, Vivian!
  • Maine State CU Assistant Branch Manager Megan Hughes embraced the People Helping People philosophy on June 26. She was on her way to pick up food for her staff when she noticed an older gentleman had fallen. She waited with him until the police and ambulance arrived after helping him up. Later, the responding officer visited the branch to present her a medal with the Augusta Police badge on it to thank her for her kindness.
  • The 2nd Annual Bags and Brews Cornhole Tournament put on by Midcoast FCU took place at Mast Landing Brewing Company in Freeport on June 16.
  • Leah Landry has been selected as the 2022 Milestones FCU scholarship recipient! Leah will receive a $1,000 college scholarship provided on behalf of the credit union’s membership. Congratulations!
  • Monmouth FCU employees enjoyed the Monmouth Fair.
  • New Dimensions FCU employees Sharon, Michele, and Paige volunteered with the group of credit union volunteers for the softball throw at Special Olympics Maine’s State Summer Games competition on June 11.
  • On June 23, NorState FCU staff attended Madawaska’s Music in the Park. They sold fresh ployes to benefit their local food pantry.
  • Sean, Richard, Tung, and Kate from Northeast CU participated in the Merrimack Valley CU Golf Tournament to support their mission to end hunger and homelessness, cure childhood diseases, support local veterans, and so much more.
  • OTIS FCU welcomed Kimberly Couture as their new Marketing Director. Welcome to the credit union, Kimberly!
  • Oxford FCU began their Race to End Hunger Raffle. The winner will be drawn in July and proceeds will support food pantries in Oxford County.
  • Employees from the southern branches of Penobscot County FCU presented scholarships to local high school graduates.
  • PeoplesChoice CU held a class for home buyers on June 9 at their Saco branch location. Attendees had the opportunity to ask local experts questions about lending, realty, inspections, and closings.
  • Over $2,000 was raised at Sabattus Regional CU’s Annual Anne Lachance Sidewalk Sale to benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger and Special Olympics.
  • Saco Valley CU announced a new feature for their app and online banking: Card Controls. The new feature allows members to manage their card on-the-go.
  • On Facebook, Seaboard FCU shared helpful tips for first-time homebuyers looking to save for a down payment.
  • On June 17, the Sebasticook Valley FCU team enjoyed some delicious pizza from Indian Lake Market, a local business in St. Albans.
  • Some of the team from The County FCU attended The United Way of Aroostook Annual Breakfast on June 21.
  • Town & Country FCU presented the 28th Annual C-U Swish-Out Childhood Cancer Challenge, which raised $52,000 for the Maine Children’s Cancer Program!
  • Trademark FCU served as the official sponsor of the June 10 Portland Sea Dogs game. During this special game, the Sea Dogs changed their name (for one night only) to the Maine Whoopie Pies!
  • Portland Sea Dogs tickets were given away at TruChoice FCU.
  • On June 23, University CU set up in the Collins Center and Memorial Union for the University of Maine’s orientation.
  • Winthrop Area FCU member Patricia Harris won the Father’s Day Raffle grill and accompanying accessories.
