CU News & Events – July Edition


The heat of July didn’t suppress credit union involvement in community festivals, member appreciation events, the #ILoveMyCreditUnion Day social media blitz, supporting our many loved local charities, and more! Below, our League offers an overview of what kept some of our credit unions busy in the month of July. 

  • Acadia FCU popped up lots of love for their members on #ILoveMyCreditUnion Day, giving away popcorn at the credit union’s Fort Kent, Madawaska. St. Francis, St. Agatha, and Ashland locations, as well as its Bangor branches on Broadway and Stillwater.
  • As part of their Swipe Out Hunger in June initiative, Atlantic FCU donated $32,433 to the Campaign for Ending Hunger in July thanks to more than 1,000,000 card swipes by members throughout the month of June.
  • Staff at Bangor FCUdressed in style for the Fourth of July, representing their patriotic pride in shades of red, white, and blue and celebrating with members.
  • On July 26 in recognition of the #ILoveMyCreditUnion social media blitz, Brewer FCU encouraged members to like their Facebook posts and comment on their favorite thing about the credit union. Two random winners received their own Brewer FCU-branded tumbler!
  • Capital Area FCUkicked off the month by beginning their Community Caterpillar Fundraiser for Special Olympics Maine and announcing that Amanda, a valued member of the credit union’s Lending Department, was promoted to Consumer Loan Officer. Congratulations, Amanda!
  • Casco FCU was thrilled to sponsor the 45th Annual Sebago Days! Patti, Michelle, Lauren, Carrie, and Marti and her two children rode in the parade decked out in 70’s fashion.
  • Central Maine FCU believes in empowering students to achieve their educational dreams and is now offering student loans. Details about their offerings are outlined on the credit union’s website.
  • July 17 was an exciting day for Community CU. The credit union launched a brand-new website!
  • Both branches of Connected CU collected winter essentials for youth in need as part of Maine Children’s Home’s Christmas in July program. Other credit unions who collected items for this initiative include Central Maine FCU, Franklin-Somerset FCU, KSW FCU, Maine State CU, New Dimensions FCU, and Sebasticook Valley FCU.
  • cPort CU joined the community at this year’s Moxie Festival and looks forward to celebrating at this special event again next summer.
  • At the Yarmouth Clam Festival, Cumberland County FCU hosted the Diaper Derby.
  • To commemorate #ILoveMyCreditUnion Day, Dirigo FCU celebrated the incredible impact credit unions have on their members’ lives and community by sharing some of the reasons why they love being a part of the credit union movement.
  • Jason, Emily, Caitlin, and Joe from Downeast CU braved the rain at the 22nd Annual Washington County Community College Golf Scramble, which the credit union also sponsored.
  • A group from Eastmill FCU, consisting of President/CEO Derek Hebert and Board Members Bob Leathers, John Doe, and Barry Goddard, participated in the East Millinocket Summerfest, cooking free hot dogs for the festival attendees.
  • Empeople CU shared information on their blog and social media platforms about various scams to help keep their members protected from fraud.
  • Evergreen CUdonated over $6,000 to the Campaign for Ending Hunger as a result of their partnership with the Maine Mariners hockey team. The credit union and the team committed to donating $50 for every goal scored on home ice, and they exceeded their goal of $5,000 for the season.
  • Credit unions truly are great places to work! On July 31, Five County CU applauded ten employees who were celebrating their work anniversaries. These staff members have a combined work experience of 72 years – contributing to the credit union’s strength and success. Congratulations!
  • Franklin-Somerset FCU ecstatically joined credit union colleagues in supporting the Maine Children’s Home’s Christmas in July program, loving the opportunity to make a child’s Christmas brighter.
  • On Friday, July 26, Vicki, Steph, and Anna from Gardiner FCU volunteered to help check athletes in at the Ironman marathon, engaging with people from all over the world.
  • For the Fourth of July, Great Falls FCU posted a few historic facts about notable patriotic events that have taken place on July 4.
  • Katahdin FCU held two Member Appreciation Days to celebrate with members! On July 3, their main office hosted members in anticipation of the Fourth of July. Later in the month, the Island Falls office kicked off Summerfest on July 26.
  • KSW FCUcontinues to provide members the opportunity to donate to the Campaign for Ending Hunger and is proudly participating in the Patriots Sweepstakes.
  • On social media, KV FCU shared a clip from WMTW featuring our League’s Jen Burke, who discussed money-saving tips for electric bills in a recent Total Money segment.
  • Northeast CU officially rebranded to Lighthouse CU!
  • Lincoln Maine FCU excitedly joined the Lincoln community for ample Loon Festival celebrations and activities.
  • Lisbon Community FCU collected donations for the Campaign for Ending Hunger with their Chocolate Candy Bar Fundraiser.
  • Hannah and Rachel from Maine Family FCU spent time with the High Street Food Pantry helping to pack and distribute boxes of food to more than 70 local individuals and families.
  • Maine Highlands FCUhosted a booth at the Piscataquis River Festival on Saturday, July 27.
  • With the fast-approaching school year and student success in mind, Maine Savings FCU began a School Supply & Food Drive that runs until the end of August.
  • Diana Garcia, CEO of Maine Solutions FCU, joined CEOs Jason Lindstrom (Evergreen CU), Scott Harriman (Cumberland County FCU), and Randy Stolp (Synergent) in a leadership and growth-focused panel discussion for the League’s Young Professionals Network (YPN) on July 25.
  • This year, Maine State CU was thrilled to sponsor the Rockland Harbor Trail Committee.
  • Midcoast FCU’s own Kathy Zuppa was named the Bath Area Food Bank’s volunteer of the week in July. Every Thursday on her lunch break, Kathy walks next-door and volunteers with the Food Bank—even on vacation. Congratulations, Kathy, and thank you for your efforts to help the community and to end hunger!
  • Ryan Poulin, CEO of New Dimensions FCU, celebrated his 30th work anniversary in July. Congratulations, Ryan, and thank you for your unwavering commitment to the credit union movement!
  • NorState FCUcontinued celebrating Wonderful Wednesdays through its sponsorship of music in the park.
  • Congratulations to OTIS FCU team member Kassi. She is the recipient of the credit union’s “FAN-tastic!” Employee Quarterly Award. Kassi was nominated by her peers for going above and beyond to help her coworkers. Thank you for being a valued member of the OTIS FCU team, Kassi!
  • To increase engagement for #ILoveMyCreditUnion Day, Oxford FCU asked members to comment something they love about the credit union for the chance to win a cooler bag full of awesome swag.
  • Penobscot County FCU was announced as the sponsor of FUSION: Bangor’s Fusion First event, which took place on August 1 at the LifeFlight of Maine hangar at the Bangor Airport.
  • All summer long, PeoplesChoice CU is hosting their Win Big, Do Good 50/50 Fundraiser. At the end of August, one lucky winner will receive half of the total profits and the other half will benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Sabattus Regional CU’s social media channels informed members of scams to be mindful of related to the Olympics.
  • Some of the team from Saco Valley CU helped prepare the Saco Meals Program for the Fourth of July! They decorated ahead of the holiday, sponsored, and served over 125 meals of shepherd’s pie, glazes carrots, and homemade upside-down blueberry crumble.
  • Seaboard FCU proudly served as one of the sponsors of the Bucksport Bay Festival. Team members volunteered at the special event and participated in the parade for a day of fun and community!
  • Sebasticook Valley FCU offered fresh-squeezed lemonade and doughboys at the St. Albans Summerfest to benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • The County FCU participated in community celebrations for Caribou Cares About Kids weekend.
  • At the Annual Tri for a Cure Survivor’s Breakfast on July 13, Town & Country FCU President and CEO David Libby addressed the attendees. He shared his awe towards the strength and resilience of the survivors and commended them on how they continue to embody dignity and the human spirit. Town & Country FCU served as a lead supporter of Tri for a Cure.
  • Trademark FCUprovided a donation to the Augusta Food Bank to support the increased demand for food and supplies.
  • The Buxton branch of TruChoice FCU officially reopened at the end of July!
  • The new Augusta location of University CU had its ribbon cutting ceremony on July 24. Welcome to Augusta!
  • Winthrop Area FCU is serving as one of the perennial sponsors of the 15th Annual Concerts at Norcross Point. Mark your calendars to participate in a day of family-friendly fun on August 4.
