CU News & Events January Edition


2021 is off to a productive start for Maine’s credit union network! Scholarship announcements, community donations and sponsorships, and employee recognitions are just some of the ways credit unions kept busy during the month of January.

  • Acadia FCU announced it will award $6,000 in scholarships to eligible area high school seniors.
  • Atlantic FCU sponsored the Brunswick Downtown Association’s annual meeting on January 28.
  • To commemorate the new year, Brewer FCU conducted a fun Facebook giveaway. One lucky member was rewarded with a $25 Visa gift card.
  • Capital Area FCU helped secure acoustic and electric guitar donations for local instructor Ben Bowman with Snow Pond Community Arts.
  • Casco FCU wished Mortgage Officer Pat Stebbins-Woodhouse a very happy retirement!
  • Central Maine FCU announced its new credit union hours for 2021.
  • Changing Seasons FCU celebrated two work anniversaries, Happy 23rd anniversary to Karla St. Louis and 1st anniversary to Sydney Freitag!
  • In its Winter 2021 newsletter, Coast Line CU announced it will be awarding up to four $1,000 scholarships. Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to qualified graduating high school seniors within Coast Line CU’s field of membership and two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to qualified full-time business students at Southern Maine Community College.
  • Community CU partnered with Safe Voices to spread awareness about human trafficking. Employees participated in Human Trafficking Awareness Day by wearing blue at their branch.
  • Connected CU worked with 107.9 The Mix to provide free lunches for the South End Teen Center and the Augusta Teen Center.
  • Kara, cPort CU’s Assistant Branch Manager, participated in a virtual financial seminar for Portland High School. Kara spoke with students about choosing a financial institution, deciding which type of account to open, and what you need to open an account.
  • Cumberland County FCU is incentivizing members to go paperless! Members who enroll in e-statements before the end of February have a chance to win a new Weber grill.
  • Dirigo FCU congratulated Jill, Senior Consumer Loan Officer, on her 29th anniversary! Thank you for your service!
  • Downeast CU opened their hearts and wallets to help a community member healing from brain surgery. The credit union wishes Jace a speedy recovery!
  • Eastmill FCU published its Winter 2021 Dollars & Sense newsletter. This edition highlights the credit union’s holiday activity, member giveaways, and warns members about potential fraud threats.
  • Evergreen CU is sponsoring the Portland Press Herald’s new Finances FYI series, which provides timely tips to improve financial wellness.
  • Five County CU dressed down to support their charity of the quarter, the Maine Coalition to Ending Domestic Violence.
  • Gardiner FCU visited the Gardiner Police Department, Gardiner Fire Department, and staff at city hall to provide them with hand sanitizer, masks, stadium seats, and other goodies.
  • Infinity FCU’s Arundel branch has a brand new ATM. The credit union had it up and running for its members on January 22.
  • Because fans are not allowed to watch Lawrence High School’s basketball team play in-person this year, KSW FCU has made it possible for all games to be broadcasted for its membership.
  • KV FCU honored essential workers last month on its Facebook page. One lucky worker received a Keurig, VISA gift card, and other items.
  • Lincoln Maine FCU developed and shared a timely blog post about how to report scams to the National Elder Fraud Hotline.
  • Lisbon Community FCU celebrated an employee birthday. Happy Birthday, Averie Levesque!
  • Maine Highlands FCU celebrated several work anniversaries. Happy Anniversary to Rhonda Taylor, Michael Brown, Tammie Allen, Wendy Baird, Melissa Cookson, Betty-Jo Beaudion-Pomerleau, Rachel Hutchins, and Karen Vasily.
  • Maine Savings FCU donated $25,000 to RSU 24 to support a new grades 6-12 school.
  • Maine State CU provided donations to the Adaptive Outdoor Education Center and the KV Humane Society.
  • Midcoast FCU announced that its employees volunteered a total of 610 hours in 2020. Thank you to the team at Midcoast FCU for serving your communities!
  • New Dimensions FCU celebrated work anniversaries for Darcy Dubois, Cathy Davis, Darla Frost, and Elizabeth Dixon.
  • Northeast CU set a record selling Make-A-Wish raffle calendars. 701 calendars were sold.
  • NorState FCU donated the fees it collected in 2020 from its coin counter machines in Madawaska, Presque Isle, and Fort Kent locations to local nursing care and assisted living facilities.
  • OTIS FCU offered members free YETI Rambler mugs with any vehicle finance or refinance.
  • Oxford FCU sponsored a free ski night at Black Mountain of Maine.
  • Saco Valley CU announced a change in organizational structure with a shift for three members of their management team. Congratulations to Kevin Foley, Amy Irish, and Sean Ready on their new positions.
  • Sabattus Regional CU was featured in Maine Women Magazine for being managed and operated by an all-women group.
  • Sebasticook Valley FCU celebrated several employee anniversaries. Thank you to Mindy Nyman, Heidi Simmons, Kim Barnet, Ricki-Lynn Johndro, Heidi Wilcox, Alexa Eaton, and Brittany St. Pierre for your continued service to the credit union.
  • The County FCU and Penobscot County FCU merged following regulatory approvals by the National Credit Union Administration and the Maine Bureau of Financial Institutions. Congratulations!
  • Town & Country FCU partnered with the Portland Recovery Community Center to provide a free, virtual financial wellness workshop.
  • Trademark FCU donated cleaning supplies, PPE, and money to the Children’s Center Early Intervention & Family Support.
  • University CU announced it will be awarding eight $1,000 scholarships to students attending one of the seven University of Maine System campuses or Maine Maritime Academy.
