CU News & Events – January Edition

Between milestone celebrations and community-centered support, Maine’s credit unions were fully demonstrating their People Helping People spirit in January. Below, our League provides a look at what some of our credit unions were doing last month. 

  • Acadia FCU announced they will be giving away $17,000 in scholarships to high school seniors graduating in 2026. They launched their application in January with a submission deadline of April 10.  
  • Towards the end of January, Ancorum CU held a successful fundraiser for the restoration of the Kennebec Hand Tub. In total, more than $2,000 was raised for this effort. 
  • Atlantic FCU’s Whitney was recognized with their Shine Bright Award, commending her eagerness to learn new things, provide support to members, and leave smiles on everyone’s faces. 
  • Bangor FCU is gearing up for its annual meeting, asking members to save the date and join them on March 22. All members are welcome to help them celebrate 70 years of service!
  • Brewer FCU congratulated Board Member William “Pops” M. Mangum, III for 50 years of service in education. RSU 34 staff and students also celebrated “Pops Day” on January 21, wearing his signature bow ties to honor his dedication. 
  • Amanda from Capital Area FCU was recognized for her four-year work anniversary, making a difference every day for the credit union and their members.  
  • Casco FCU’s Alicia Hubbard was named Employee of the Quarter. Congratulations, Alicia!  
  • Central Maine FCU encouraged members to reevaluate their budgets and financial goals to kick off the new year on the right foot. 
  • In their winter newsletter, Coast Line CU helped members understand credit scores and their impact. 
  • Community CU warned members about crypto ATM scams rising nationwide as well as romance scams. 
  • Connected CU’s newsletter offered helpful tips to ring in the new year, including updating personal information with them, changing passwords, and reviewing credit reports. 
  • On January 22, cPort CU’s employees, board members, former CEO, and construction partners gathered to celebrate the grand opening of their new Lewiston branch—complete with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony. 
  • Service Specialist Brandi Mitchell from Cumberland County FCU partnered with a team to raise nearly $650 for Special Olympics Maine by participating in the Annual New Year’s Day Lobster Dip in Old Orchard Beach. 
  • Dirigo FCU held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to honor an exciting milestone: the opening of their brand-new Scarborough branch location. They were joined by credit union leaders, vendor partners, and members of the community as they embark on serving the Southern Maine community. 
  • Downeast CU shared their enthusiasm about serving their membership and local communities for 85 years as of 2026. Happy 85th anniversary, Downeast! 
  • At their main office, Eastmill FCU began selling tickets for their Valentine’s Basket Raffle—which includes two tickets to Cinemas 10 in Bangor, chocolates, a cozy blanket, a teddy bear, and a candle.  
  • To help members meet their 2026 savings goals, Empeople CU reminded them they can set up recurring transfers to their savings accounts. 
  • January 1 marked Evergreen CU’s 75th anniversary. Happy 75 years, Evergreen! 
  • Franklin-Somerset FCU continued selling canvas bags for the Campaign for Ending Hunger. They also started selling chocolate and hearts, gearing up for the Valentine’s Day holiday. 
  • Gardiner FCU kicked off the year with Friday Franks on January 2, raising money for the Campaign for Ending Hunger. 
  • During the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day holiday closure, Great Falls FCU reminded members to take advantage of online banking and check or cash deposits at ATMs. 
  • HRCU launched a credit score tool in their online banking app, allowing members to check their credit without impacting their score. 
  • Katahdin FCU announced that in partnership with CU Insurance Solutions, they donated $5,000 to the Katahdin Strong Campaign in December to provide fuel assistance to those in need. 
  • In support of the Campaign for Ending Hunger and Special Olympics Maine, Soup Day came to KSW FCU on January 5. 
  • KV FCU joined the United Way of Kennebec Valley’s Annual Campaign Celebration, thrilled to share in the joy of a successful year of fundraising more than $2 million for vital programs. The credit union also celebrated their own Sara Fifield, AVP & Business Development Manager, who has been elected to the United Way of Kennebec Valley’s Board of Directors. Congratulations, Sara! 
  • Lighthouse CU announced outstanding results from their Holiday Donation Drive. Across 17 branches, they supported more than 20 community partners by collecting 1,573 pounds of food and donating $17,000 to partners during the government shutdown. 
  • This year, Lincoln Maine FCU honors 60 years of service to their members and community, grateful for the trust placed in them along the way! 
  • Durham Youth Baseball has been awarded Lisbon Community FCU’s 2025 George Roy Community Grant of $10,000 to support the construction of a community batting cage to enhance player development. 
  • During Identity Theft Awareness Week, Maine Family FCU shared red flags of identity theft that should never be ignored. 
  • Every Friday, Maine Highlands FCU staff dress casually in exchange for donations to their Caring for Community initiatives—and the credit union matches donations to double their impact. In early January, team member Erica presented a donation to the Milo Fire Department. 
  • Maine Savings FCU proudly shared that they were named the 2025 Community Partner of the Year by the Christine B. Foundation, recognizing the way their employees show support for people facing cancer across Maine throughout the year. Congratulations, Team Maine Savings! 
  • On January 30, Maine State CU continued celebrations for their 90th anniversary by inviting members to enjoy a hot chocolate bar and selection of pastries. Happy 90 years to Maine State! 
  • Midcoast FCU participated in the Maine Credit Union League’s Ending Hunger Celtics Sweepstakes, helping raise money for hungry Mainers in need while giving their members a chance to see Maine’s very own Cooper Flagg play at TD Garden. 
  • Milestones FCU’s website alerted members to the free financial coaching available to them as part of their membership. 
  • Soup Day arrived to New Dimensions FCU on January 30 to fundraise for Special Olympics Maine and the Campaign for Ending Hunger. 
  • NorState FCU served as a proud sponsor for the local Winter Blast Music Series at the Grand Isle Community Center. 
  • On January 29, OTIS FCU held a private ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of their renovation. They welcomed vendors, business partners, and staff with refreshments from My Dad’s Place. 
  • Online, Oxford FCU asked members what their resolutions were for the new year. At random, they chose five people who responded and gave them Dunkin’ gift cards. 
  • PeoplesChoice CU invited members to save the date for their Member Ski Day on March 13 at Saddleback Mountain. 
  • Sabattus Regional CU started a “We Love Special Olympics” 50/50 and Basket Raffle to raise money for Special Olympics Maine athletes. 
  • Saco Valley CU reminded members that they can utilize their mobile banking app to set credit score goals, track progress, and build stronger financial habits over time to get where they want to be.
  • Seaboard FCU shared information for their upcoming Cornhole Tournament to benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger, taking place on March 7 at the Hermon Sports Arena. 
  • A big thank you was sent to members of Sebasticook Valley FCU for helping the credit union raise funds for the Campaign for Ending Hunger in 2025. 
  • Staff at The County FCU are celebrating their 70th anniversary year in 2026. Happy 70 years to The County! 
  • Town & Country FCU kicked off the new year supporting the work of Preble Street with a donation providing 7,500 meals to neighbors in need. A team of employees also visited the Preble Street Food Security Hub to prepare meal kits for the week. 
  • In a recent blog post on their website, Trademark FCU outlined smart money moves to make in the new year. 
  • Pam, a Universal Member Service Representative at TruChoice FCU, has officially been with the credit union for 30 years. Happy work anniversary, Pam! 
  • University CU’s Peggy Laskey surpassed 40 years of service to the credit union. Congratulations, Peggy! 
  • As tax season begins, Winthrop Area FCU reminded members to ensure their direct deposit information is correct.
