CU News & Events – January Edition


Our credit unions warmed hearts in their communities during January’s chilly weather. From delivering donations to raising awareness of both scams and community events with their members, credit union staff put those they serve first. Here is a snapshot of what some of our credit unions were up to last month:

  • Participating Acadia FCU branches sold individual bags of popcorn on Fridays to support the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Atlantic FCU awarded a $10,000 grant to ProsperityME through the Atlantic Federal Credit Union Foundation. This grant will help promote, teach, and enhance financial literacy for immigrants in the community.
  • Bangor FCU showed appreciation for their employees by highlighting them on social media all month long with their You Belong Here campaign.
  • Capital Area FCU exceeded their goal with over $4,000 raised for their Pie Face Challenge benefitting Special Olympics Maine.
  • Members of Casco FCU who make a donation to the Campaign for Ending Hunger before February 10, have a chance to win a special Valentine’s Day gift basket.
  • In Coast Line CU’s winter newsletter, the credit union shared tips to help members save at the grocery store.
  • Community CU spent time with the kittens at the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society and made a $250 donation to support the organization.
  • The team at Connected CU partnered with 107.9 The Mix to deliver pizza to the South End Teen Center in Waterville.
  • cPort CU’s blog shared tips to help members notice scams before they happen.
  • Cumberland County FCU’s winter newsletter announced that in 2021 they donated over $33,000 to more than 50 organizations including food pantries, scholarships, community events, and more.
  • Thanks to Downeast CU’s food drive, the Irene Chadbourne Ecumenical Food Pantry received a donation of over 160 pounds of food.
  • Evergreen CU continued to show support for local sports teams the Maine Celtics and the Maine Mariners.
  • Five County CU announced that their first quarter charity of 2022 is Special Olympics Maine. The credit union is encouraging members to make a donation to help Maine’s athletes.
  • Ahead of the event in February, Infinity CU announced their plans to support Biddeford Winterfest and encouraged members to come join in the fun.
  • Staff at Katahdin FCU have been busy! They donated $1,000 from their coin sorter machines to the Campaign for Ending Hunger. They are sponsoring a Super Bowl raffle to benefit the Campaign as well.
  • KSW FCU celebrated National Popcorn Day on January 19 at their Waterville branch by selling the delicious snack for $1 and donating the funds to the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • KV FCU wished Mike a happy 20th workiversary and thanked him for his years of service. Congratulations, Mike!
  • Lincoln Maine FCU raised awareness on Facebook surrounding tax return scams, cautioning members to keep an eye out for fake communications from bad actors pretending to be the IRS.
  • Lisbon Community FCU offered their members a $25 incentive if they referred others to the credit union.
  • The Vassalboro branch of Maine Savings FCU sold homemade peanut butter cups for $3 each to benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Maine State CU supported the Alfond Youth & Community Center in Waterville by sharing information about their Cabin Fever Cornhole Tournament fundraiser.
  • Midcoast FCU successfully held a donation drive to gather food, supplies, and cash donations for Midcoast Humane and Dogwill.
  • Don’t miss out! The deadline to apply for Milestones FCU’s $1,000 scholarship is coming up on March 11.
  • Monmouth FCU announced that members should be on the lookout for an enclosed ballot in the mail regarding a potential merger with Great Falls FCU.
  • New Dimensions FCU opened their scholarship program for graduating high school seniors.
  • Teachers were featured on Northeast CU’s social media as a part of their Teachers Who Wow campaign.
  • To help local food pantries with their ongoing response to the pandemic, NorState FCU donated its 2021 coin collector fees to hunger relief organizations in Aroostook County.
  • OTIS FCU announced that it renewed its membership with the United Way of the Tri-Valley Area’s Corporate Champion Circle. The credit union will serve as a gold sponsor and pledged $3,000 to the organization.
  • To celebrate National Popcorn Day, Oxford FCU polled their Facebook community to see how they preferred their popcorn. Six winners were chosen to receive a Dunkin’ Donuts gift card.
  • Sabattus Regional CU staff were treated by one of their generous, appreciative members to a pizza lunch.
  • Saco Valley CU chose Waterboro Branch Manager Kim for their Employee Spotlight in their continued effort to introduce staff to the members they love to serve.
  • Tips for avoiding telephone scams were mentioned in Seaboard FCU’s January newsletter.
  • Sebasticook Valley FCU featured Supervisory Committee Member Terry McCannell in the Spotlight section of their newsletter.
  • Fuel ME Nutrition donated delicious energy drinks to the staff at the Presque Isle branch of The County FCU to keep them energized while helping members.
  • As a part of their Town and Country Delivers in 2022 initiative, Town & Country FCU gave away multiple gift cards throughout the month to random members who commented their favorite local pizza place in response to their post on Facebook. Winners received $25 gift cards to the shop of their choice, as well as a $10 Visa gift card to cover delivery fees.
  • Trademark FCU awarded their Griffin-Guerrette Charitable Giving Fund to the Faith Food Pantry in Gardiner.
  • TruChoice FCU donated $5,212 to the McAuley Residence.
  • University CU kicked off the seventh year of the UCU Scholarship Program, which awards eight $1,000 scholarships to students attending a University of Maine System campus or Maine Maritime Academy.
