CU News & Events – February Edition


Our credit unions spread the love this February. Between fundraisers, financial wellness tips, and staff appreciation, our credit unions showed how much they care. Here is a snapshot of what some of our credit unions were up to during the month of February.

  • Staff at Acadia FCU announced the success of their participation in the Betty White Challenge. The credit union raised $760 and disbursed the funds to PAWS Animal Welfare Society in Fort Kent and the Bangor Humane Society.
  • Atlantic FCU donated $50 to the Campaign for Ending Hunger for every new member that joined in February.
  • Peter, a member at Bangor FCU, donated his nearly new bicycle to the credit union to raise funds for the Campaign for Ending Hunger. Thank you, Peter, for your kindness and for making the world a happier place!
  • Brewer FCU shared the 2021 fundraising results for the Campaign for Ending Hunger on social media to highlight the special role their members play in raising money for this important effort.
  • Capital Area FCU sponsored Cornhole for a Cause to benefit Special Olympics Maine.
  • Casco FCU held a Valentine’s Day raffle. Winners received baskets full of goodies and funds from ticket purchases supported efforts to end hunger in their local community.
  • The Dominic Roux Scholarship application opened at Central Maine FCU. High school seniors and adults currently pursuing higher education are eligible to apply for a $1,000 scholarship.
  • Changing Seasons FCU shared information about Maine Credit Unions’ Take a Chance to End Hunger Bruins raffle to encourage members to stop by a branch and support the cause.
  • In Coast Line CU’s newsletter, they shared five tips for teaching a child how to save money.
  • Jennifer Hogan, Community CUs President and CEO, represented Maine at the CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC) on a panel titled, “Supercharge Your Credit Union’s Mission: Increase Membership Growth & Advance the Communities You Serve.”
  • Connected CU partnered with 107.9 The Mix to deliver food to the South End Teen Center and the Augusta Teen Center over school break.
  • IRS-certified cPort CU employees volunteered their time and expertise as part of CA$H Greater Portland to help eligible Mainers prepare their taxes for 2021 filing for free.
  • In Cumberland County FCU’s winter newsletter, they shared five steps to make filing taxes easier.
  • Dirigo FCU announced that they are accepting scholarship applications until March 31. Four students will receive a $1,000 scholarship award.
  • Downeast CU Account Expert Lori visited the local unified basketball team to surprise them with a $651 donation. She had been collecting money for the team for nearly a year! Money will be used to purchase new sneakers and jerseys.
  • Eastmill FCU shared tips in their newsletter on ways to avoid fraud.
  • Evergreen CU encouraged members to indulge in a little self-care on February 23 while the sun was shining, sharing resources online about the Portland Trails.
  • Easter arrived early at Five County CU and they are celebrating by raffling off an Easter basket in their branches. All proceeds will benefit Special Olympics Maine.
  • Franklin-Somerset FCU excitedly shared their 2021 end-of-year fundraising totals for the Campaign for Ending Hunger in their newsletter.
  • In support of the Campaign for Ending Hunger, Gardiner FCU held Chili Chowder Day on February 17. Members enjoyed a hot, homemade lunch with the credit union.
  • Great Falls FCU wished CEO Nancy Bard a happy retirement. Thank you for your many years of dedicated service to the credit union movement, Nancy!
  • Infinity CU named Rachna Bhatia the next Chief Experience Officer (CXO) of the credit union. She will oversee branch leaders and the Small Business team to ensure a wonderful experience for every member.
  • Was Katahdin FCU your Valentine? Staff created Valentine’s Day baskets and gifts to raise money for the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • On their website, KSW FCU promoted how members can sign up and attend their annual meeting in April.
  • KV FCU released the application for their $1,000 scholarship, which is open to graduating seniors who are members of the credit union.
  • Lincoln Maine FCU shared Maine Credit Unions’ blog on preventing identity theft during Identity Theft Awareness Week.
  • Lisbon Community FCU announced an opening on their Supervisory Committee, encouraging members to apply to get involved.
  • In Maine Highlands FCU’s newsletter, the credit union educated members about the benefits of running debit as credit.
  • Maine Media FCU is giving away a Starbucks gift card. If a current member gets a new member to join, they will be entered into a monthly drawing for a coffee card treat.
  • Maine Savings FCU earned the AARP BankSafe Trained Seal for 2022, meaning over 80% of their frontline staff have completed the training. Congratulations to the Maine Savings FCU team on this outstanding accomplishment!
  • In Maine Solutions FCU’s winter newsletter, the credit union shared common mobile payment app scams to warn members about this type of fraud.
  • The annual hockey tournament was back and financially supported by Maine State CU! Staff participated in four games on February 5. Proceeds from the tournament benefitted the Alfond Youth Center in Waterville.
  • Midcoast FCU proudly presented a $3,000 donation to Craig Burgess for the Fuel for Friends program. This program helps residents of surrounding communities with emergency funds to heat their homes.
  • On their website, Milestones FCU reminded members about their upcoming March 11 deadline to apply for a $1,000 college scholarship. The financial award will be given to a graduating high school senior.
  • New and used books were sold at New Dimensions FCU’s Waterville and Skowhegan branches to raise money for the Campaign for Ending Hunger and Special Olympics Maine.
  • NorState FCU celebrated Ashland Branch Manager Denise Zarate’s 15-year work anniversary. Thank you for the time you have spent serving your members, Denise!
  • Member Experience Specialist II Adam Fortier was awarded Employee of the Quarter at Northeast CU for regularly going above and beyond the expectations of his role. Congratulations, Adam!
  • OTIS FCU enjoyed the sunshine on February 23 by sponsoring Free Ski Day at Spruce Mountain Ski Area.
  • Emily Jamison joined Oxford FCU as the new Marketing Coordinator. Welcome, Emily!
  • The team at Penobscot County FCU joined the nation in wearing red on February 4 to raise awareness about heart disease.
  • PeoplesChoice CU shared a helpful blog with members about common online scams to avoid.
  • Sabattus Regional CU held a 50/50 raffle to benefit Special Olympics Maine.
  • Tips for noticing email scams were highlighted in Seaboard FCU’s newsletter.
  • Sebasticook Valley FCU’s newsletter advised members to try the 52-Week Savings Challenge.
  • The County FCU celebrated Gina Appreciation Day on February 25. Head Teller Gina is a long-time staff member at the Presque Isle branch. The County FCU wanted to thank Gina for always far exceeding member expectations. Thanks, Gina!
  • On February 22 at 2:22 pm, Town & Country FCU randomly chose two winners from their Facebook page to win four tickets to a Maine Mariners game.
  • Trademark FCU chose a winner on Facebook to receive four tickets to the Maine Celtics game on March 18. The game will be Maine-themed to celebrate Maine’s 200th birthday. Trademark FCU is sponsoring custom-made uniforms for the team with Maine’s original state flag on it.
  • TruChoice FCU shared common scams on their financial wellness blog all month long to help protect members from fraud.
  • Real Estate Loan Processor Carrie Galgano received the UCU Star Award from University CU. This is a quarterly award to recognize employees who go above and beyond. Congratulations, Carrie!
  • Winthrop Area FCU began its Lucky Day Raffle in their branches. Money from ticket sales will support the Winthrop Community Fund.
