CU News & Events August Edition


The heat and humidity that August delivered didn’t slow our credit unions down. Employees were busy helping their members, working in their communities, and attending the League’s Convention. Here is a snapshot of what some of our credit unions were up to last month:

  • Acadia FCU launched its new digital banking experience. To promote the launch, celebratory goodies were distributed at the credit union’s branches.
  • The team at Atlantic FCU was busy collecting bottles to raise funds for the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Bangor FCU welcomed a new employee to their family. Deb Nason is the credit union’s new loan officer. Welcome, Deb!
  • Brewer FCU served as a sponsor of Wayne’s Wiffle for a Wish. This wiffle ball tournament raised money for Make-A-Wish Maine.
  • Capital Area FCU celebrated employee, Shauna Magee. She has been working for the credit union for 21 years! Happy anniversary, Shauna!
  • Casco FCU hosted its 4th Annual Motorcycle Ride to End Hunger and raised a record-breaking $3,421.85 to support local food pantries!
  • Central Maine FCU received two social responsibility awards at the League’s Convention: a second place Louise Herring Award and an honorable mention Desjardins Youth Financial Education Award. Congratulations!
  • Changing Seasons FCU collected backpacks and schools supplies to support Penquis.
  • Community CU received multiple social responsibility awards at the League’s Convention. Congratulations on earning the following awards in your asset size: Desjardins Adult Financial Education, Desjardins Youth Financial Education, and Dora Maxwell.
  • On August 25, Connected CU’s Augusta branch celebrated Whoopie Pie Wednesday with delicious treats from Wicked Whoopie.
  • cPort CU held its Member Appreciation Week, August 2 – 6. During the week, members could enter to win a YETI soft cooler or one of five $90 Maine business gift cards for each cPort branch!
  • One year after moving from its former location in the Westbrook Vocational School to 150 Main Street, Cumberland County FCU celebrated its anniversary with week-long treats for members.
  • At the League’s Convention, Dirigo FCU received a Louise Herring Award. The credit union came in second place in their asset size. Congratulations!
  • Downeast CU’s Bette Tomah, Senior VP of Internal Operations, was awarded the Jeannette G. Morin Award. This award is presented annually at the League’s Convention to the outstanding credit union employee of the year! Congrats!
  • In their summer newsletter, Eastmill FCU reminded members about the benefits of the SURF ATM network. The credit union proudly participates in this surcharge-free, convenient network.
  • Evergreen CU served as a sponsor of the Blood, Sweat, and Gears Moto Show at River Bank Park on August 15.
  • Five County CU received a Louise Herring Award at the League’s Convention. The credit union finished first in its asset size. Congratulations to the Five County CU team!
  • Employees at Franklin-Somerset FCU provided coloring books, crayons, markers, and board games to the Maine Children’s Home for Little Wanderers. The credit union held a collection drive earlier in the summer.
  • Gardiner FCU received a Desjardins Youth Financial Education Award at the League’s Convention. The credit union finished in second place. Congratulations!
  • Infinity CU employees continue to give back to their communities through Random Acts of Kindness. Pat from the credit union’s lending team donated snacks and water to Young School in Saco and Christina from the Bangor branch provided books, markers, erasers, and more to a local teacher.
  • Katahdin FCU served as a sponsor of the Millinocket Memorial Library’s summer reading program.
  • KSW FCU announced that a new online mobile banking system, Orpheus, is coming to users on September 14.
  • KV FCU welcomed a new full-time teller, Alexandra Quimby, to their Waterville office! Welcome, Alexandra!
  • Lincoln Maine FCU continued their “Meet the Staff” feature on social media to introduce members to their hardworking employees.
  • Lisbon Community FCU announced more winners of their Throwback Thursday trivia, providing them with $25 gift certificates to local businesses.
  • Maine Highlands FCU recently honored its Board Secretary LuAnn Tibbetts by dedicating a conference room in her name. She has been serving on the credit union’s board for 25 years.
  • The team at Maine Savings FCU continues to educate their members about their exciting new digital banking app.
  • Maine State CU promoted Stephen Wallace to Executive Vice President. He will oversee retail and commercial banking, including branch administration, lending, credit cards, and deposit operations. Congratulations, Stephen!
  • Midcoast FCU celebrated Thomaston VP Branch Manager Tena Wallace. She received the Diane L. Oceretko, People Helping People Award, at the League’s Convention. Congrats, Tena!
  • Monmouth FCU celebrated the back-to-school season by automatically entering all youth members (ages 0-12) into a drawing for a chance to win a free eReader.
  • New Dimensions FCU held a bottle drive campaign to support the Campaign for Ending Hunger and Special Olympics Maine.
  • On August 24, NorState FCU hosted a special fundraiser to support the Dr. Levesque Elementary School in Frenchville. Over $5,500 was raised from this event.
  • Northeast CU wrapped up its 2021 Love Your Community Awards. This inspiring initiative distributed $120,000 to nonprofit organizations serving Maine and New Hampshire throughout 2021.
  • OTIS FCU was busy selling books and decorative wreaths to help raise money for the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Oxford FCU CEO Matt Kaubris was named the 2021 President’s Award winner at the League’s Convention. This award, selected by League President/CEO Todd Mason, honors the League’s volunteer of the year. Congratulations, Matt!
  • Penobscot County FCU offered a $100 grocery give-away at its Old Town branch. Lucky member, Steve picked up his gift card on August 26.
  • PeoplesChoice CU announced plans to update their mobile banking platform. The new version will allow better access to accounts, increase ease of use, offer more control and organization, and provide new features.
  • Sabattus Regional CU broke their record at their annual yard sale thanks to member donations, raising more than $1,500 for the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Saco Valley CU served as one of the sponsors of the 2021 River Jam Festival in Mechanics Park in Biddeford on August 21.
  • Seaboard FCU announced bringing Banzai, a financial education program for teachers and students, to local schools to teach finance.
  • Sebasticook Valley FCU held its annual yard sale on August 22 to raise money for the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • The County FCU awarded nine $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors within the credit union’s field of membership. Over the past 24 years, The County FCU has awarded over $131,000 in scholarship money to area students.
  • Town & Country FCU celebrated “DOGUST” by partnering with the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland (ARLGP) to feature a new dog every Friday in hopes of finding these furry friends a forever home. Town & Country FCU also made generous weekly contributions of $250 to ARLGP and raffled off pet items and Sea Dogs tickets on Facebook to their dog-loving followers.
  • Trademark FCU welcomed Scott to the Augusta branch as a Member Services Officer I. Welcome, Scott!
  • Congratulations to University CU President and CEO Renee Ouellette! She is this year’s recipient of the James M. Gratto Award. This award is presented annually at the League’s Convention to an outstanding credit union CEO.
  • Winthrop Area FCU held a back-to-school raffle, donating all proceeds to the Community Fund to help members in need.
