CU News & Events April Edition

April was a very productive month for our credit unions! Between Credit Union Youth Month activities, annual meetings, scholarships, and fundraising, credit union employees stayed busy all month long. Here is a snapshot of what some of our credit unions were up to last month:

  • Acadia FCU began hosting Virtual Financial Fitness Fairs for high schools around Aroostook County. They have not held these financial literacy events since before the pandemic began.
  • On April 9, Atlantic FCU sponsored Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bath/Brunswick’s Bowl for Kids Sake.
  • Bangor FCU announced a new, convenient drive-up ATM at its Ellsworth location.
  • Brewer FCU shared helpful tips for saving money to help offset rising gas prices.
  • Capital Area FCU held its Annual Meeting virtually on April 13.
  • Donations were collected at Casco FCU throughout the month of April in support of the Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals.
  • Central Maine FCU posted on its website that it is looking for a Supervisory Committee member. The Committee meets monthly and performs audit functions for the credit union.
  • Changing Seasons FCU collected items to support the people of Ukraine.
  • Coast Line CU continues to accept applications for its scholarship program. High school seniors must submit their materials by July 1.
  • Community CU kicked off their 2nd Annual Signature Soup Challenge with five participating businesses within Androscoggin County. These local businesses must create a signature soup and donate a portion of their proceeds from every bowl purchased to the Campaign for Ending Hunger. The Challenge runs from April 15 to May 15.
  • Connected CU brought lunch to the teens from the Augusta Teen Center as they participated in Community Clean Up Day.
  • Milestone anniversaries were celebrated at cPort CU! In honor of their Forest Avenue branch turning 10 and their Scarborough branch turning 15, they gave away $100 gift cards to various stores and restaurants.
  • Cumberland County FCU participated in the Windham Parks & Recreation 2022 Easter Egg Hunt.
  • Dirigo FCU announced the five winners of their Pauline Caouette-Moore Scholarship Program. Each student received $1,000 for their hard work.
  • All month long, Downeast CU collected school snacks in their lobbies to be donated to local food pantries.
  • Eastmill FCU encouraged members to attend their upcoming Annual Meeting in their spring newsletter.
  • Evergreen CU shared ways members can get involved in their community, including going for walks on the Portland trails, adopting a pet from the Animal Refuge League, visiting the Portland Museum of Art, attending local sporting events, and more.
  • In celebration of Credit Union Youth Month, Five County CU shared Financial Literacy Terms of the Day on social media.
  • In their spring newsletter, Franklin-Somerset FCU shared their brand new signs—complete with message boards—that were installed at their Farmington, Kingfield, Skowhegan, and Madison locations.
  • To promote Youth Savings Month, drawings were held at Gardiner FCU for children who came in and deposited $10 or more into their account.
  • Infinity CU Senior Branch Manager Cindi Smith celebrated 25 years with Infinity. Congratulations and thank you for all your hard work and dedication serving your members, Cindi!
  • Continuing their annual tradition, Katahdin FCU sold May baskets for Ending Hunger. Altogether, they raised over $300.
  • On April 24, KSW FCU staff participated in the 1 in 5 5K in support of the Sexual Assault Crisis and Support Center.
  • KV FCU excitedly held their first in-person staff meeting since 2020.
  • Lincoln Maine FCU got together for group team building.
  • To raise awareness of Credit Union Youth Month, Lisbon Community FCU shared helpful tips and resources to aid adults in teaching children the importance of financial literacy.
  • It’s 5:00 o’clock somewhere! Maine Highlands FCU had their last official Friday closing at 6:00 pm on April 29. They celebrated with brownie “fridaes” (sundaes). Starting in May, the credit union will be changing its Friday hours to close at 5:00 pm.
  • Maine Savings FCU sponsored the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department and the Bangor Police Department’s prescription drug takeback and document shredding event on April 29 and 30.
  • The annual Walk to End Hunger in Maine 5K returned to Maine State CU.
  • Midcoast FCU attended the Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce Business & Community Expo.
  • New Dimensions FCU collected nonperishable food items at their Waterville, Skowhegan, and Winslow locations. Donations were distributed to community food pantries.
  • NorState FCU joined in the Credit Union Youth Month festivities with a virtual Financial Fitness Fair in Van Buren and a visit to Girl Scout Troop #50 by Eagle Lake Assistant Branch Manager Chelsea.
  • Northeast CU announced it will be hosting their fifth annual Nice Catch – Celebrating Kind Kids initiative.
  • Otis FCU launched their new website.
  • The staff at Oxford FCU spoke with students at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School about their plans for the future and their financial goals during the career fair.
  • Penobscot County FCU promoted its scholarship program for graduating high school seniors. The deadline for submitting applications is May 5.
  • Through its International Credit Union network, PeoplesChoice CU decided to match up to $2,500 in donations to support the people of Ukraine.
  • Sabattus Regional CU joined in on the fun at the Community Resource Fair at Oak Hill Middle School on April 24.
  • Saco Valley CU supported Make-A-Wish Maine in granting their 1,700th wish to Sela, a 15-year-old battling leukemia. Her wish took her to Hawaii!
  • Member safety is a priority in Seaboard FCU’s April newsletter. They shared tips for maintaining privacy and personal safety, such as not oversharing on social media and what red flags to look for in emails.
  • To celebrate the five-year anniversary of The County FCU’s Member Service Center opening, teams from each branch joined in to celebrate the milestone with signs, pictures, and cakes.
  • In celebration of National Pet Day on April 11, Town & Country FCU gave away a $50 gift card to Bayside Bark. Members were entered if they posted a photo of their pet in the comments on Facebook. A winner was selected at random.
  • Trademark FCU wished Shawn a happy retirement on April 29, her last day after 36 years serving the credit union and its members. We hope you have a happy and healthy retirement, Shawn!
  • TruChoice FCU gave away packages of four tickets to the Portland Sea Dogs.
  • To maintain youth financial literacy after Credit Union Youth month, University CU shared their financial literacy program, U Financially Fit, online.
  • Winthrop Area FCU held an Easter raffle, giving one lucky winner a basket full of festive goodies.
