CU News and Events – April Edition


April proved to be a very productive month! CU Youth Month activities, scholarship announcements, annual meetings, and anniversary celebrations are just some of the activities that kept Maine’s credit unions busy last month.

  • Acadia FCU announced that Joey Cannan was hired to serve as its new Executive Vice President. Welcome to the credit union family, Joey!
  • In honor of National Volunteer Month, Atlantic FCU asked members to vote for their favorite non-profit organization. The winner will be announced soon and will receive $1,000.
  • Bangor FCU coordinated a bottle drive to support Special Olympics Maine and the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Capital Area FCU celebrated a special anniversary! Congratulations to Patti for 15 years of service at the credit union.
  • Casco FCU made a donation to the Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals to help the organization’s four-legged friends.
  • Central Maine FCU celebrated International Children’s Book Day with Monty Moose! Children were offered free books at its Lewiston branch.
  • Changing Seasons FCU partnered with United Way to support the Neighbors United Cell Phone Drive, which provides gently used cell phones to victims of domestic abuse and violence.
  • To commemorate Child Abuse Prevention Month, Community CU planted blue pinwheels at their branches to show their support for this important advocacy initiative.
  • Coast Line CU is offering two $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors with plans to pursue college or post-secondary school. Eligible graduates must submit their applications by July 1.
  • Connected CU partnered with 107.9 The Mix to provide the South End Teen Center with a pizza lunch.
  • cPort CU sponsored the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women Luncheon.
  • Cumberland County FCU celebrated a work anniversary. Congratulations to Michael Lapham on five years of service!
  • To celebrate Earth Day, Dirigo FCU’s employees helped clean up the Auburn Riverwalk.
  • Downeast CU hosted a canned food drive to help stock the shelves at food pantries in their community.
  • Eastmill CU announced its scholarship opportunities for graduating seniors. Information about the credit union’s scholarship program can be found on its website.
  • Evergreen CU announced that it is offering free financial counseling for all account holders.
  • Five County CU announced that the University of Maine Center on Aging has been selected as its charity of the quarter.
  • Gardiner FCU celebrated CU Youth Week with gifts, snacks, and a visit from Kirby the Kangaroo!
  • Breanna with Infinity FCU used her $100 Random Acts of Kindness employee gift card to purchase items for Pulled from the Pits, a pitbull rescue organization.
  • Katahdin FCU is now accepting donations for the Campaign for Ending Hunger on its website, providing members with a convenient way to make a contribution to the Campaign.
  • KSW FCU supported the One in Five 5K to benefit Sexual Assault Crisis and Support Centers.
  • KV FCU collected 952 pounds of food for the Oakland Food Pantry.
  • Lewiston Municipal FCU held its annual meeting virtually on April 7.
  • Lincoln Maine FCU celebrated local teachers by giving away pizza as a way of saying thanks for their service.
  • Lisbon Community FCU encouraged eligible graduating seniors to apply for a chance to win a $1,000 college scholarship. The credit union will be awarding four graduates with scholarships to pursue continuing education opportunities.
  • Sarah Scott from Maine Savings FCU’s Hammond Street branch provided the Bangor Area Homeless Shelter with a donation from the credit union.
  • Maine State CU launched its 2021 FeedME Virtual Walk Challenge. This year’s virtual event will allow participants to walk anywhere they choose to help end food insecurity in the state.
  • Midcoast FCU’s Joe and Chandra volunteered at Freeport Community Services and helped prepare lunch for its “Free Friday Pickup.”
  • New Dimensions FCU announced it will be hosting its 7th Annual Cruisin’ For A Cure Car Show to benefit the Maine Children’s Cancer Program. Save the date and join them June 5!
  • Northeast CU announced two employee promotions. Ana Foret is the credit union’s new Senior Vice President/Chief Risk Officer and Stephanie Koch is the new Assistant Vice President of Risk Management. Congratulations!
  • NorState FCU helped raise money for the Campaign for Ending Hunger by raffling off a gorgeous quilt made by Ginette Ouellette.
  • OTIS FCU celebrated National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day with a photo contest on Facebook. One randomly drawn pup will soon receive a $50 Visa gift card.
  • In advance of Teacher Appreciation Week, Oxford FCU dropped off goodies for the staff at Meroby Elementary on April 27.
  • Penobscot County FCU and The County FCU dressed down for Sexual Assault Awareness Month. All funds raised were matched by Penobscot County FCU and donated to AMHC Sexual Assault Services.
  • SacoValley CU helped Steve Curran, SVP of Mortgage Lending, celebrate 30 years of dedicated service to the credit union and his community. Congratulations, Steve!
  • Sabattus Regional CU engaged its youth members through a drawing competition. Congratulations to Miss Savannah for winning the competition.
  • Town & Country FCU celebrated “Maine Makers” every week during the month of April by giving away gift cards to local artisan businesses.
  • To celebrate CU Youth Month, the team at Trademark FCU gave away a white spruce tree to anyone that opened a new youth account.
  • Throughout April, TruChoice FCU shared valuable tips on building and maintaining credit on its Facebook page.
  • University CU hosted a virtual information session on April 28 to educate members about the Paycheck Protection Program.
  • Winthrop Area FCU celebrated two employee anniversaries last month. Angela has been with the credit union for 25 years and Stacie has been with the credit union for 10 years. Congratulations to
