May proved to be a busy month for Maine’s credit unions! From the Ending Hunger Golf Tournament to the Annual Convention, credit unions from across the state came together. The League provides a brief snapshot of what some of our credit unions were up to last month.
- Acadia FCU held a raffle for the Campaign for Ending Hunger in each of their branches. Each branch had a different prize ranging from patio furniture to storage benches.
- For each run the Portland Sea Dogs score this season, Atlantic FCU has committed to donating $10 to the Campaign for Ending Hunger. For the 78 runs scored in April, they donated a total of $780.
- Grab your helmets! Bangor FCU held a bike raffle for member Peter G.’s donated bicycle. Members could purchase a ticket for $5 or five tickets for $20. The drawing was held June 1 and all proceeds benefitted the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
- Brewer FCU’s Member Appreciation Day was held on Friday, May 27. Staff brought out the grills and served hot dogs and soda.
- The team at Capital Area FCU held their second annual employee cornhole tournament, raising almost $2,000 for Special Olympics. Congratulations to team Diana and Deb for taking home the win!
- At the League’s Annual Convention, Casco FCU’s Patty Kenney won the Diane L. Oceretko People Helping People Award for her outstanding volunteerism and commitment to the credit union movement. Congratulations, Patty!
- Changing Seasons FCU held a free raffle to celebrate Mother’s Day. The prize was a $150 Visa gift card and a $50 Chapel Hill gift card.
- Coast Line CU wants members to have a stress-free summer and is offering skip a payment to qualified members.
- Community CU’s Board Vice Chair, Elizabeth Keene, was awarded the Alexander Ferguson Award at the Annual Convention, an award that recognizes an outstanding credit union volunteer. Congratulations, Elizabeth!
- In partnership with 107.9 The Mix, Connected CU delivered pizza from The Two Cent and ice cream sundaes to the South End Teen Center in Waterville to commemorate Memorial Day.
- Team members from cPort CU participated in the American Heart Association’s Maine Heart Walk on Sunday, May 15 in Portland.
- Cumberland County FCU handed out free tickets to school employees for the May 27 Portland Sea Dogs game in honor of Teacher Appreciation Night.
- Dirigo FCU sponsored the United Way of Androscoggin County’s Touch a Truck event on May 21.
- The food drive continued at Downeast CU. In May, they collected cereal and shared that, so far this year, they have donated 848 pounds of food to eight area food pantries in support of the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
- Eastmill FCU held their Annual Meeting on Friday, May 6.
- Evergreen CU CEO Jason Lindstrom won the prestigious James M. Gratto Award at the League’s Annual Convention to recognize his strong, longstanding advocacy for credit unions. Congratulations, Jason!
- Five County CU received the Louise Herring Philosophy in Action Member Service Award at the Annual Convention for their commitment to the People Helping People philosophy. Congratulations!
- Donations were collected at Gardiner FCU for their annual yard sale to benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
- Infinity CU member and local artist Ebenezer Akakpo’s bus stop installation Hope and Friendship in Portland was selected as Best Bus Stop in the USA by Streetsblog USA. Congratulations, Ebenezer!
- Katahdin FCU shared their thanks to the generous family who donated boxes and boxes of books, allowing the credit union to run a continuous book sale in their lobby for Ending Hunger.
- KV FCU celebrated the work anniversaries of Bill Tozier (24 years) and Christine Devine (23 years). Thank you for your dedication to your members!
- On May 20, Lincoln Maine FCU shared financial education with Enfield Station School using the Maine Credit Unions’ curriculum.
- Lisbon Community FCU shared information on social media for avoiding scams.
- The Bangor Lowe’s donated a stainless steel Char-Broil Performance Series 4 gas grill to Maine Savings FCU to raffle off for the Campaign for Ending Hunger. Maine Energy Inc. of Hermon donated propane to go with the grill.
- At his last Annual Convention as CEO of Maine State CU, Tucker Cole was awarded with the League Chairman’s Award and the 2021 Political Involvement Award. He was also recognized as the top individual donor for CULAC in 2021 and for his longtime contributions as a member for the League and Synergent’s Board of Directors. Thank you and congratulations, Tucker!
- Chandra Thoits, Human Resource Specialist II at Midcoast FCU, was presented the Jeannette G. Morin Award at the Annual Convention. This award honors an outstanding credit union employee. Congratulations, Chandra!
- Monmouth FCU supported Monmouth PTO’s Spring Fling raffle by donating two new bikes.
- New Dimensions FCU presented checks to eight local organizations with the money they raised in 2021 for the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
- NorState FCU was awarded the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award at the League’s Annual Convention for their #drLevesqueSTRONG fundraiser held last summer. Congratulations!
- Branch Manager Kathy from Northeast CU stopped by the Southern Maine Agency on Aging to deliver a donation as a part of their commitment to ending hunger within the state.
- OTIS FCU raffled off handmade planters at their Annual Plant Sale on Saturday, May 21. Proceeds benefitted the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
- Joann Bisson, Executive Vice President at Oxford FCU, received the President’s Award at the League’s Annual Convention. Joann serves as Chairwoman of the League and Synergent’s Board of Directors, has been involved in many League committees, and is active in her credit union’s chapter. Congratulations, Joann!
- Volunteers from the southern branches of Penobscot County FCU cheered on athletes at the Special Olympics track and field event held at Hampden Academy on May 10.
- PeoplesChoice CU accepted applications for their Maine Merits Scholarship Program until May 14.
- Sabattus Regional CU held a yard sale for Ending Hunger on May 26 and 27.
- Seaboard FCU shared tips on social media for catching up on retirement savings, encouraging members to strive for a financially secure retirement.
- Scams are out there and Sebasticook Valley FCU posted an article with four ways to prevent a scam on social media to help members know what to look out for.
- Two University of Maine Presque Isle Young Professional Institute graduates from The County FCU, Connor Plourde and Darlene Saunders, were celebrated for their hard work enhancing their leadership skills and personal development. Great work, Connor and Darlene!
- Town & Country FCU announced their sponsorship of Tri for a Cure.
- Trademark FCU wished luck to their first-ever sponsored little league team, the Trademark Tides.
- On Facebook, TruChoice FCU randomly gave away a four pack of tickets to the Portland Sea Dogs.
- Shauna Baker, Loan Operations Manager at University CU, completed the Bangor Region Leadership Institute program, a program designed to give emerging leaders the skills, knowledge, and ongoing support they need to succeed within the community. Congratulations, Shauna!
- Winthrop Area FCU began their BBQ raffle leading up to Father’s Day. The grand prize is a grill, a themed gift basket, and a $25 gift certificate to Manchester Meats. All proceeds will go to The Winthrop Community Fund.
