CU News and Events – July Edition

Our credit unions embraced the July heat! From barbecues to fundraisers for the Campaign for Ending Hunger and Special Olympics Maine, staff continued to find ways to support those in their communities amid rising temperatures. Here is a snapshot of what some of our credit unions were up to in July:

  • Acadia FCU mourned the loss of long-time Board Member, Kathy Roy. Kathy served as a volunteer on the Board of Directors from 2000 to 2017 and had a large impact on the credit union. Kathy will be greatly missed.
  • A team from Atlantic FCU participated in the Insurance Trust Golf Tournament to support Special Olympics Maine.
  • On social media, Bangor FCU shared a “Scam of the Week” post each week outlining tips for protecting personal information.
  • Brewer FCU’s North Main Street location renovated their drive-through. Come see their new look and say hello to the team!
  • On July 8, Capital Area FCU held their 10th Annual BBQ to benefit Special Olympics. With help from sponsoring and participating companies within the community, they reached an all-time fundraising high of $2,005.
  • On July 29, Casco FCU thanked their members for choosing Casco with a member appreciation barbeque at the Gorham locations. They offered hot dogs, hamburgers, desserts, and drinks.
  • Central Maine FCU served as a drop off location for the Maine Children’s Home’s Christmas in July gift collection.
  • July 15 brought about Changing Seasons FCU’s Community BBQ in Hampden. They had delicious food, raffles, and collected donations for the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • In support of #ILoveMyCreditUnion Day, Community CU collaborated with businesses in their area and offered free hot dog lunches at Kennedy Park in Lewiston.
  • Connected CU collected donations for the Maine Children’s Home’s Christmas in July.
  • cPort CU welcomed six summer interns: Mandy, Tyler, Olivia, Carson, Cori, and Lawson. Welcome to cPort!
  • John Schwartz, a member of the Cumberland County FCU Board of Directors, celebrated 25 years serving on the Board. Thank you for your years of dedication, John!
  • Dirigo FCU announced its sponsorship of the Paris Public Library’s summer of reading program.
  • In Topsham, Downeast CU and Downeast Insurance collected 140 pounds of food for the Bowdoinham Food Pantry.
  • Eastmill FCU provided tips for navigating rising fuel costs in their summer newsletter.
  • Evergreen CU expanded their field of membership to four more counties: Androscoggin, Oxford, Sagadahoc, and Lincoln. The credit union also was recognized as a Forbes best in state credit union. Congratulations!
  • In support of the Maine Wildlife Transport, Five County CU held a raffle for a tote bag full of Five County goodies.
  • Franklin-Somerset FCU came in fifth on Forbes’ list of top credit unions in the state. Congratulations!
  • Gardiner FCU welcomed two new team members to their teller line. Welcome, Bri and Jamie!
  • KSW FCU offered members a chance to win a summer fun prize package worth over $150. The credit union sold raffle tickets in their branches to benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger and Special Olympics Maine. The winner received four Funtown Splashtown tickets, towels, beach balls, sunscreen, and more.
  • On July 15, KV FCU offered members free ice cream to thank them for 59 years in the Augusta, Oakland, and Waterville communities.
  • Lincoln Maine FCU closed on July 23 to partake in the Lincoln Loon Festival parade and engage with their community.
  • The Summer Gift Basket Raffle kicked off at Lisbon Community FCU. Proceeds will benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Maine Family FCU proudly shared on Facebook that Forbes recognized them as the third best credit union in the state.
  • July 15 was Maine Highlands FCU’s Yard Sale for Ending Hunger.
  • Maine Savings FCU held a giveaway for four sets of four VIP tickets to the August 3 A Day to Remember show at the Maine Savings Amphitheater.
  • Nichole and Dan from Maine State CU taught members of Capitol Clubhouse about finances and budgeting. Maine State also ranked second on Forbes’ list of top credit unions in Maine.
  • Midcoast FCU presented a donation to Brie DiPerri of the Help Yourself Shelf Food Pantry in Wiscasset.
  • Leah Landry was selected as the 2022 Milestones FCU scholarship recipient. Leah will receive a $1,000 scholarship. She has plans to attend Union College in the fall. Congrats, Leah!
  •  On #ILoveMyCreditUnion Day, Monmouth FCU asked members on Facebook to share what they love about being a part of the Monmouth FCU community.
  • To raise money for Special Olympics Maine and the Campaign for Ending Hunger, New Dimensions FCU’s Silver Street staff hosted a car wash.
  • NorState FCU excitedly shared their fourth place ranking on Forbes’ list of top credit unions in the state.
  • Northeast CU announced Matthew Sudsbury-Francois as its new Biddeford Branch Manager. Congratulations, Matthew!
  • Otis FCU was joined by Chris Bouchard as the new President and CEO. Welcome, Chris!
  • Ahead of OFCU Night at the Oxford Plains Speedway, Oxford FCU gave away four-packs of tickets.
  • On Facebook, Penobscot County FCU recognized a few younger members of the community for setting up a lemonade stand across the street from the Old Town branch. Alec from Lending/New Accounts stopped by for a refreshing summer beverage to support those within his community.
  • On July 27, PeoplesChoice CU held a home seller’s class.
  • The Annual Sabattus Summer Fun Fest and BBQ returned on July 14 and Sabattus Regional CU joined in on the festivities.
  • The Saco and Waterboro branches of Saco Valley CU began collecting pet supplies for donation to the Animal Welfare Society in Kennebunk and for the Grammy Rose Dog Rescue & Sanctuary in Acton.
  • Seaboard FCU shared five tips for protecting your money during high inflation on their Facebook page.
  • Sebasticook Valley FCU spread the word about the upcoming Annual Giant Yard Sale to benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger in August in order to collect donations.
  • The float for the Maine Potato Blossom Parade from The County FCU won a prize. Their float featured agriculture and community, and employees handed out 3,000 bags of potato chips as they walked the route from start to finish. Congrats!
  • Town & Country FCU was a major sponsor of the 15th annual Tri for a Cure and had several staff participate in the all-women triathlon. Collectively, they contributed more than $20,000 to this year’s Tri. The event has now raised more than $20 million to support the work of the Maine Cancer Foundation.
  • Trademark FCU welcomed Aliesha back to the Trademark FCU family as the Branch Experience Coordinator. We are glad you are back, Aliesha!
  • TruChoice FCU’s social media featured various savings tips from grocery costs to fuel and electricity
  • For the second year in a row, University CU staff joined Special Olympics Maine’s annual Tee-It-Up Scramble at Martindale Country Club for a day of golf in the sun.
