CU News and Events July Edition


July’s summer heat didn’t slow our credit unions down. Recognizing employees, supporting community organizations, and assisting members are just some of the ways Maine credit unions remained active last month.

  • Acadia FCU  pledged $100,000 to Northern Maine Medical Center’s $12.6 million expansion project. When completed, the expansion will include a new cafeteria named The Acadia Cafe.
  • Atlantic FCU hosted a Women & Investing Seminar to educate members about investing their money.
  • On July 17, younger members who made deposits into their Bangor FCU savings accounts earned an exciting award: double the amount of Monty Moose bucks!
  • Dave DeFroscia, Brewer FCU’s President and CEO, participated in the Richard May & Warren Rand Golf Tournament. Proceeds supported scholarships for graduating seniors and provided local families with financial assistance to help their children participate in sports.
  • Casco FCU showed appreciation for their employees by making treat packs for their dedicated staff.
  • Capital Area FCU started selling travel blankets in support of Special Olympics Maine.
  • In an effort to keep its members informed about the latest financial fraud schemes, Central Maine CU shared information about a new Federal Trade Commission scam on its Facebook page.
  • Changing Season FCU held its first physically distant, in-person board meeting. All board members sat outside the credit union’s mobile CU On Wheels and wore Changing Seasons FCU face masks.
  • Coast Line CU reopened its lobby on July 1.
  • Community CU is working to stop the spread of COVID-19 by distributing face coverings to their community members at no cost.
  • Connected CU and Maine State CU showed support for the Maine Children’s Home for Little Wanders by sharing their Amazon wish list. To make a contribution, visit mainechildrenshome.org or Connected CU’s Facebook page.
  • Gene Ardito, cPort CU’s President & CEO, authored an article in the July edition of Amjambo Africa discussing how opening an account at a financial institution is an important step toward establishing independence in America.
  • Congratulations to Cumberland County FCU’s President & CEO, Scott Harriman, for winning the 2020 James M. Gratto Award for Outstanding Credit Union CEO.
  • Dirigo FCU announced that its annual meeting is going virtual. Members can sign up to attend the event happening online on August 26.
  • Downeast CU recognized seven team member anniversaries. Thank you to Bridget, Mandi, Emily, Jason, Julie, Brooke, and Morgan for your years of service!
  • Eastmill FCU awarded ten $500 scholarships to members with plans to attend higher learning institutions.
  • Evergreen CU is holding its annual summer kayak fundraiser. All proceeds from the raffle will benefit lake associations in the Sebago Lake Region, local food pantries, and the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland.
  • Each quarter, Five County CU raises money for a local nonprofit organization. The credit union recently selected Maine Community Alliance as its 3rd quarter charity.
  • Franklin-Somerset FCU challenged its employees to walk in support of the Campaign for Ending Hunger. In two weeks, FSFCU employees logged 1,400 miles!
  • Gardiner FCU is holding a school supply drive to help local students. A list of needed supplies can be found on Gardiner FCU’s website and can be shipped to or dropped off at any credit union location.
  • Infinity FCU celebrated National Drive-Thru Day with treats for members who visited drive-thru locations.
  • KSW FCU has partnered with Frank 106.9 for a Business Stimulus Advertising Contest. The winning business will receive $500 worth of radio advertising on Frank 106.9.
  • Congratulations to Sami Benyard of Messalonskee High School for being awarded KV FCU’s $1,000 college scholarship.
  • Lincoln Maine FCU donated $50 gift cards to the Howland Maine Bass Derby. These cards will be used as prizes for the winners.
  • Lisbon Community FCU celebrated Miranda Smith and Rick Robert’s birthdays. Happy Birthday!
  • Maine Harvest FCU announced a new conservation grant program which will cover closing costs on farmland financed by the credit union.
  • Maine Highlands FCU presented Piscataquis County officials with a check for $145,000 for the purchase of the former Key Bank building at 2 Hudson Avenue in downtown Guilford. This location will become the new home for the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Office.
  • Maine Savings FCU and Waterfront Concerts announced they will be presenting free live-streamed concerts in August to help combat hunger in Maine. Concerts will take place every Friday night and benefit a variety of food pantries and hunger organizations.
  • New Dimensions FCU’s CEO Ryan Poulin celebrated an important milestone on July 25: 26 years of service with the credit union! Congratulations, Ryan on your anniversary!
  • Northeast CU is rewarding and sending gifts to young members who do good deeds through its Nice Catch Kids program.
  • NorState FCU is donating its Coins for a Cause proceeds to local, long-term care facilities. The funds will go towards supporting fun activities for the residents to enjoy.
  • OTIS FCU announced it will be a sponsor of the 2020 Color ME United 5k. The race will take place on August 29.
  • In honor of National Ice Cream Day, Oxford FCU celebrated by giving away ten gift cards to Frosty Delite Ice Cream Shop and Norway/Paris Soft Serve.
  • Congratulations to Penobscot County FCU for being named a Best Community Bank/Credit Union for 2020 by Market Surveys of America.
  • PeoplesChoice CU celebrated their employee, Brenda, with a “Shout Out” Award. This award recognizes employees who are doing an exceptional job. Congratulations, Brenda!
  • Sabattus Regional CU hosted a Rada Cutlery fundraiser to benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Congratulations to Seaboard FCU’s Alan Johnson, Jeff Kneeland, and Joe Lynch, who were re-elected to the credit union’s Board of Directors at its annual meeting.
  • The County FCU announced the opening of its newest branch in Mars Hill.
  • Town & Country FCU recently celebrated its Summer Member Appreciation Night at the Saco Drive-In with a showing of Despicable Me.
  • Trademark FCU began accepting applications for the Griffin-Guerrette Charitable Giving Fund. Each year, Trademark FCU donates $1,000 to a non-profit organization in Kennebec County. The 2020 application deadline is August 31.
  • TruChoice FCU is rewarding members for using their TruChoice FCU debit or credit card. So far, they have awarded five members gift cards ranging from $50 to $100 to local restaurants.
  • University CU held a virtual seminar on July 15 to educate members about conservative investment options to consider.
