CU Employees Can Wear Face Shields When Working Behind a Barrier

The League recently learned that retail businesses are allowed to have public-facing employees wear face shields instead of cloth face masks when employees are working behind a barrier such as plexiglass. To determine if this policy would be extended to employees working at financial institutions, the League joined with the Maine Bankers Association in contacting the Mills Administration for clarification.

The Administration has confirmed that face shields are a permitted form of facial covering for financial institution employees when deployed with a plexiglass barrier. If a physical barrier does not exist between an employee and a member, then cloth face masks remain the only approved facial covering.

Please contact the League’s Governmental Affairs team if you have any questions regarding this policy.
