Credit Union News and Events – October Edition

There is nothing scary about the month of October when you work at a Maine credit union. From community events to ending hunger fundraisers and International Credit Union Day celebrations, credit unions ensured this spooky month was full of smiles and joy! Below is a snapshot of what some of our credit unions were up to last month:

  • Acadia FCU shared exiting news, announcing it will open a new branch in Brewer in 2025.
  • With over $11,000 worth of prizes, Atlantic FCU launched its holiday sweepstakes to raise money for the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • On October 20, Brewer FCU welcomed members and participants from the community at its 2024 Disc Golf Tournament to End Hunger in Orrington.
  • Team members at Bangor FCU wore pink on Breast Cancer Awareness Day to show their support for people in the community who have been touched by the disease.
  • Capital Area FCU is raising money for team member, Patti. She has been with the credit union since 2006 and is fighting breast cancer. Funds raised will help with her medical expenses and demonstrate how her credit union family is Patti Strong!
  • Casco FCU celebrated credit union week by handing out sweet treats and swag to members.
  • Central Maine FCU revealed a fresh look with updated branding and a new logo.
  • On the one-year anniversary of the Lewiston shootings, Community CU team members wore blue in solidarity to honor and remember those who lost their lives on October 25, 2023.
  • Connected CU joined 107.9 The Mix to surprise Garland Road Small Animal Hospital with pizza.
  • cPort CU team members attended the Best Places to Work in Maine awards ceremony, where they were recognized for being a great employer!
  • Cumberland County FCU helped toss hunger to the curb when it hosted its 6th Annual Bag Toss Tournament on October 9.
  • As part of its Member Appreciation Week, Dirigo FCU gave away free whoopie pies to show their gratitude to their amazing members.
  • Downeast CU celebrated International Credit Union Day by giving away some delicious fall treats, apple cider, and credit union swag.
  • Eastmill FCU offered members a chance to enter their spooky Halloween basket raffle to benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Empeople CU announced it will be holding a grand opening ceremony for its new Biddeford branch in early November.
  • Evergreen CU held its Member Appreciation Night on October 26 at the University of Southern Maine’s Portland campus. To help the credit union celebrate, special guest S.S.G. Travis Mills shared an inspirational story of resiliency.
  • On October 26, Five County CU hosted a Trunk or Treat event in Bowdoinham to benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Gardiner FCU sold pink ribbons, earrings, bracelets, keychains, and pins to support the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
  • Great Falls FCU announced the groundbreaking of its new, expanded branch at 760 Minot Avenue in Auburn. The new branch will be completed next summer.
  • HRCU celebrated International Credit Union Day at all branches.
  • KSW FCU hosted a membership celebration barbeque during International Credit Union Week. Rita’s Catering and Rollie’s Bar and Grill helped serve up hamburgers and hot dogs to members.
  • KV FCU hosted a book sale at its Augusta, Waterville, and Oakland locations to benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • On October 24, the Lighthouse CU Foundation hosted a gathering in Portland for area nonprofits to facilitate connections with those who are making a significant impact in the areas housing, food insecurity, and education.
  • Lincoln Maine FCU celebrated International Credit Union Day by having some fun with members. Together, they played virtual games, hosted a 50/50 raffle, and held a candy corn guessing jar.
  • Lisbon Community FCU announced the creation of the George Roy Community Grant to benefit area nonprofits. The grant was established to recognize Roy’s 38 years of dedicated service to the credit union and community.
  • Members were treated to delicious beverages and treats from Lucky Cat Coffee Truck during International Credit Union Week at Maine Family FCU.
  • In the spirit of giving back to its community, Maine Highlands FCU donated $5,000 to the Dexter Development Association’s beach project. Funds will be used toward purchasing new playground equipment.
  • In advance of the busy holiday season, Maine Solutions FCU announced its Christmas loan program.
  • Maine State CU proudly served as an event sponsor for the Marine Mammals of Maine’s 10th Annual Ocean Commotion 5k Run/Walk.
  • In recognition of October being Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Maine Savings FCU branches were invited to wear purple to raise awareness around domestic violence.
  • Midcoast FCU celebrated Halloween by handing out treats at its five branches.
  • Five lucky members at Milestones FCU won $25 gift cards to area restaurants as part of the credit union’s weekly raffle.
  • Lending a helpful hand is what credit unions do best. Ryan Poulin, CEO at New Dimensions FCU, did just that when he assisted Boy Scout Troop #433 Winslow in spreading gravel on a nature trail designed to allow visitors to take photos of wildlife without being seen by them.
  • On October 26, NorState FCU hosted a Bridgerton-themed ball to raise money for the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Members at OTIS FCU were able to begin their holiday shopping early by visiting the credit union’s craft fair. Proceeds from the fair benefited the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Oxford FCU held its Member Appreciation Week in conjunction with International Credit Union Day. The credit union loves its members and showed them how much they care throughout the week.
  • PeoplesChoice CU volunteers had a great time at the Pumpkin Harvest Festival in Saco. Team members gave away credit union gear and enjoyed spending time with community members who visited the PeoplesChoice table.
  • Sabattus Regional CU employees participated at the Sabattus American Legion Post 135’s Trunk or Treat event, wearing their best spooky costumes for the special occasion.
  • Saco Valley CU sponsored the Saco Meals Program dinner on October 8. Community members enjoyed shepherd’s pie and sauteed carrots.
  • Seaboard FCU employees took part in Heart of Maine United Way’s kickoff campaign. The credit union challenged their team to donate canned food items along with their yearly contributions. In the end, they raised $4,847 in contributions for United Way as well as eight full bags of canned goods and food items!
  • Sebasticook Valley FCU celebrated International Credit Union Day by offering giveaways, snacks, and a drawing for a $200 Visa gift card.
  • On October 5, The County FCU hosted its second annual Festival to End Hunger to support local food pantries and the Meals on Wheels program.
  • Town & Country FCU highlighted the positive impact and spirit of cooperatives across Maine during Co-Op Month with a special article from David Libby that appeared in Portland Press Herald and other publications.
  • Trademark FCU participated at Hannaford’s 2024 Wellness Fair, held at Hannaford’s Winthrop Distribution Center.
  • On October 9, TruChoice FCU was at Battery Steele Brewing in Portland to share insight about the homebuying process and provide answers to frequently asked questions.
  • To celebrate one year of service at the University of Maine Machias, UCU offered cupcakes to visitors.
  • October 25 was Pink Day at Winthrop Area FCU. The credit union sold goodies to benefit the Pink Ladies Survivors Group.
