Congressman Poliquin Continues Visits To Maine CUs

During this past week, Congressman Bruce Poliquin visited two Maine credit unions, and reiterated his support for credit unions and the need to reduce regulatory burden.  On Tuesday, Congressman Poliquin made his first appearance in the Town of Ellsworth since taking office, and that visit was to Seaboard FCU's branch.  On Wednesday, the Congressman traveled north to visit NorState FCU in Madawaska.

Kyle Casburn, President/CEO of Seaboard FCU, said, "We were honored that Congressman Poliquin chose our credit union for his visit to Ellsworth.  It reinforces the positive relationship that the Congressman has with credit unions, and recognizes the important role that credit unions have in the community.  He was well-received, and well-versed on a variety of topics that are important to credit unions including CFPB regs, cybersecurity and how the Fed's monetary policy is squeezing net interest margins."

Sue Whitehead, President/CEO at NorState FCU, observed, "We appreciate Congressman Poliquin taking the time to meet with our staff and members, and to listen to our concerns and issues.  He praised credit unions for the services they provide to communities and members, and appears to have a strong desire and willingness to help create a better operating environment for credit unions to do even more."

For his part, Congressman Poliquin was impressed "by the level of engagement on the part of credit union staff and members, and by the warm welcome I have received."  In an TV interview on WAGM-TV in Presque Isle, the Congressman noted his visit the previous day to NorState FCU and even mentioned a "delicious whoopie pie that was made by a member of the CU's staff, and how wonderful it was.  It was a great visit."

"As a member of the House Financial Services Committee, Congressman Poliquin is in a position to be involved in many legislative issues impacting credit unions, and his understanding of the issues is impressive.  We have had a number of positive meetings with Congressman Poliquin and his staff, and he asks great questions in his effort to seek answers on how he can help and what the needs of credit unions are.  We are particularly pleased that he is eager to visit credit unions across the state, and at the feedback we are receiving from the credit unions he has made stops at in the past few weeks," explained your League's President John Murphy.
