Community CU is thrilled to share the success of its community-driven Signature Soup Challenge fundraiser. Throughout this month-long event, several local Signature Businesses joined forces to fight hunger, donating a portion of their proceeds to support the cause.
Running from February 15 to March 15, the Signature Soup Challenge brought together local businesses and generous community members, raising $2,230 to combat food insecurity. Every dollar raised will go directly to the Maine Credit Union’s Campaign for Ending Hunger, benefitting local food pantries and hunger relief partners.
“With two USDA programs (the Local Food for Schools and Local Food Purchase Assistance Cooperative Agreement Program) facing serious funding shortfalls, essential resources like Good Shepherd Food Bank are under increased pressure,” said Betsy Sibley, Co-Chair of Community CU’s Ending Hunger Committee.
The credit union extends its heartfelt thanks to the local businesses who made this event a flavorful success, including:
- Bakery Barn, Lewiston
- Bear Pond Variety, Turner
- Daddy O’s Diner, Mechanic Falls
- Governor’s Restaurant & Bakery, Lewiston
- The Highland Grille, Turner
- Jimmy’s General Store, Turner
- KP’s Place, Auburn
- Simones’ Hot Dog Stand, Lewiston
- Thatcher’s Restaurant & Pub, Auburn
- Webb’s Market, Lewiston
“One in eight Mainers face food insecurity,” said Erin Dunn-Kimball, Co-Chair of Community CU’s Ending Hunger Committee. “This fundraiser is our way of stepping up to help our neighbors. We’re deeply grateful for the generosity of our Signature Business partners and the community members who came out to support them. Every bowl served contributed to a greater cause—and the impact of these funds will be felt directly in the meals provided to those in need.”
Whether people came for the soup or stayed for the cause, their support made a real difference in serving up hope at a time of need.
