Since its inception, Capital Area FCU has been a strong supporter of MaineGeneral’s Day of Hope, an annual event which brings the greater Augusta community together for a 1.8-mile Walk for Hope through the University of Maine Augusta campus. Proceeds from the event support the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care, which provides care to patients fighting cancer in the Kennebec Valley area and beyond.
In addition to serving as an official event sponsor, credit union employees annually participate in the event and raise their own funds to support the cause. To add to the fun, the credit union creates a theme to unify their team and build comradery. Last year they “rocked out” cancer by dressing as 80s musicians. This year, they “tackled cancer” with a football theme!
The dedicated team at Capital Area FCU collectively raised $1,822 to support the 2022 Walk for Hope! Their contribution helped MaineGeneral exceed its $150,000 fundraising goal, with nearly $190,000 raised to help local cancer patients.
