Credit unions care about building up and supporting their communities. Oftentimes, credit unions take interest in the same community partners and organizations and join forces in hopes of having a stronger impact. This past summer, the Bangor Chapter of Credit Unions found fundraising success in their efforts to raise money for Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center (EMMC), a Children’s Miracle Network Hospital. On October 4, the Bangor Chapter presented a check to the hospital for $18,800, funded entirely by the results of this summer’s fundraising.

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals are deeply loved and bolstered by credit unions. This is apparent in the national Credit Unions for Kids initiative to support Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Caring for members is not limited to their financial well-being but encompasses the full scope of individual and family wellness. Credit unions can join in to raise dollars for those struggling financially due to health concerns by coordinating fundraisers and programs to raise both awareness and funding for these crucial issues and key programs.

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals are nonprofits dedicated to saving children by spreading awareness for hospitals and programs and soliciting monetary donations, and support from the community—especially donations from corporate partners—is crucial to the success and operations of these hospitals, including Northern Light EMMC. Specifically, this hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) treats more than 450 premature and critically ill newborns every year. Time spent in the NICU, as well as treatment requirements, vary from newborn to newborn but can range from just a few hours to multiple weeks or months. Northern Light encourages families to take part in the newborn’s care by offering 29 private rooms with ensuite accommodations.

Hospitals struggle to meet ongoing, costly needs of patients on their own, especially in the nonprofit capacity of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. The Bangor Chapter of Credit Unions jumped at the opportunity to have their efforts benefit Northern Light, most recently at their collaborative “Kickball for Kids” event on September 12 at Hermon Elementary School. Those that could not attend had the opportunity to still show their support by sponsoring at one of the following sponsorship levels:

  • First Base Sponsor ($100)
  • Game Ball Sponsor ($150)
  • Second Base Sponsor ($200)
  • Awards Sponsor ($250)
  • Third Base Sponsor ($300)
  • Home Plate Sponsor ($400)

In addition to this fundraiser, the Chapter also ran concert parking at the waterfront Maine Savings Amphitheater venue for shows throughout the warmer months. They also held a raffle. All funds raised by the Bangor Chapter of Credit Unions for Northern Light will directly support pediatric and programs at EMMC.

Tremendous work by the Bangor Chapter!
