Atlantic FCU Foundation Grants $15,000 to Avesta Housing

The Atlantic FCU Foundation has provided a $15,000 grant to Avesta Housing, an organization dedicated to improving lives and strengthening communities by promoting and providing quality affordable homes. This support underlines the Foundation’s dedication to building strong, sustainable communities through financial education.

Avesta Housing operates the HomeOwnership Center (HOC), which is instrumental in growing homeownership and fostering financial and housing stability. The center’s mission aligns with the principles of cultivating healthy communities by offering pre and post-purchase homebuyer education, guiding individuals toward sensible mortgage choices, providing financial stability counseling, and offering foreclosure prevention services.

“With immense housing challenges facing our communities, it’s more important than ever to support organizations like Avesta Housing,” stated Chris McGorrill, President of the Atlantic FCU Foundation. “By providing access to quality affordable housing and pairing it with financial education and support, Avesta is helping individuals and families build secure, healthy lives.”

“Since the COVID-19 pandemic, thousands of people in Maine have had a difficult time purchasing their first homes, avoiding foreclosure, or simply meeting their day-to-day needs,” said Avesta Housing HomeOwnership Center Director Nicole DiGeronimo. “This gift from the Atlantic FCU Foundation will help provide much-needed counseling resources to help them navigate these challenges and set themselves on a successful financial path for the future.”

The $15,000 grant will be utilized to bolster the HomeOwnership Center’s efforts, directly impacting community members vulnerable to challenges such as job and wage loss, economic fluctuations, and more. By equipping residents with the necessary skills and knowledge, the HOC not only enhances individual homeowner success but also contributes to the revitalization and strength of entire neighborhoods.
