The Atlantic FCU Foundation has awarded a $3,500 grant to United Way of Southern Maine to support their Creating Assets, Savings, and Hope “CA$H” program. The program offers free tax preparation and financial literacy to low-income households, and last year it helped recapture nearly $1.5 million.
“We’re proud to support United Way of Southern Maine’s hands‑on approach to financial education,” said Chris McGorrill, Atlantic FCU’s Chief Experience Officer and President of the Atlantic FCU Foundation. “The Foundation firmly believes in helping people gain the knowledge and confidence to navigate their finances to help build lasting stability for themselves and their families.”
Since 1929, United Way of Southern Maine has been a vital force in the community, adapting its strategies to meet evolving needs while consistently uniting people, ideas, and resources. Their focus on tackling the root causes of critical issues such as food insecurity, housing instability, literacy gaps, and access to healthcare has solidified their role as an essential part of the region’s support network.
“This support from the Atlantic FCU Foundation ensures CA$H Greater Portland can continue delivering free, high‑quality tax preparation and helping families claim the credits they’ve earned,” said Kristin Chase Duffy, Chief Operating & Communications Officer at United Way of Southern Maine. “These refunds make a real difference in building long‑term financial stability.”
