What does it take to run and win a Presidential campaign? Karen Hughes, who played pivotal roles in not one but both of George W. Bush's successful Presidential campaigns, knows a thing or two about what the candidates for the 2016 Presidential race will need to do in order to be elected. On Wednesday, November 4, Hughes will share her insight, expertise and knowledge just as the race for The White House prepares to enter the primary stage when she addresses the Maine CU League's Annual Legislative Forum in what promises to be another "must-attend" event.
In addition to being credited with being one of the key figures in George W. Bush's campaigns, Hughes became one of President Bush's most-trusted advisors from 2001 to 2002, including during 9/11 and other significant world events. ABC News was just one of many media outlets to call Karen Hughes, "President Bush's most essential advisor." Her opinions and early observations on the candidates for both parties running to become the next President of the United States will appeal to all levels of credit union employees and officials.
"Karen Hughes was such a familiar face during the 2000 and 2004 Presidential elections, as well as in the early years of the Bush Administration. Having her as our opening speaker at the Legislative Forum should be both informative and remarkable. We are pleased that she accepted our invitation to address the Forum, and look forward to her being another outstanding, national speakers that the Forum has attracted over the past decade or so," remarked your League's President John Murphy.
The Legislative Forum program also includes Trey Hawkins, VP of Political Affairs for the Credit Union National Association (CUNA), who will provide an update from Washington, D.C., as well as highlight the new Member Activation Program (MAP) as a political advocacy tool and other resources available to help credit unions advocate with elected officials. Following lunch, a panel of legislators including Rep. Ken Fredette, House Minority Leader and Board Member at Sebasticook Valley FCU; Rep. Sara Gideon, Assistant House Majority Leader; Rep. Barry Hobbins, House Chair of the Judiciary Committee; and Sen. David Burns, Senate Chair of the Judiciary Committee, will discuss the past Legislative Session with particular focus on your League's successful passage of a bill to provide an option to have Expedited Foreclosures, as well as preview potential issues and bills in the next session.
