85 Years of People Helping People

President Roosevelt signs the Federal Credit Union Act.

On June 26, 1934, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed legislation that would forever change the banking industry in our country. The Federal Credit Union Act was enacted to promote savings and provide credit to citizens in need through a nationwide network of credit unions, whose mission was, and still is, to serve the financial needs of its members. 85 years later, our network is stronger than ever and still carrying out its People Helping People philosophy.

“Our network has a rich history, here in Maine and across our country,” said Cheryl Lancaster, Executive Vice President for the Maine Credit Union League. “I’m proud to be part of a movement that has been improving people’s lives for decades. Our commitment to serve our members and our communities is what sets us apart and will help ensure we are celebrating anniversaries like these for many more years to come.”
