The League has released its 2026 Legislative Session Recap, providing an overview of key policy developments, advocacy efforts, and legislative outcomes from this year’s session in Augusta.
Throughout the session, our League worked closely with lawmakers, regulators, coalition partners, and credit unions across the state to advocate for policies that support Maine’s credit unions and the nearly 750,000 members they serve. The recap highlights both legislation that advanced this session and proposals the League helped reshape, monitor, or even oppose on behalf of the credit union movement.
The report covers a wide range of issues addressed during the session, including mortgage lending authority for state-chartered credit unions, paper billing statement fees, foreclosure policy, data privacy, auto lending proposals, artificial intelligence, and more. It also looks ahead to several policy areas expected to remain active heading into the next legislative session.
We appreciate the continued engagement and support of Maine’s credit unions throughout the legislative session and encourage readers to share the recap with their teams as we look ahead to continued collaboration and advocacy in 2027. If you have any questions concerning our activity during the legislative session, please don’t hesitate to contact the League’s Governmental Affairs team.
