Volunteer Tracking for 2025 is Underway
Credit unions dedicate thousands of hours toward volunteerism each year—and Maine’s credit unions are no exception. A new and improved Volunteer Tracking form has been launched on the League’s website to allow your credit union more visibility and control when it comes to the hours you submit, and we hope your credit union will utilize it to begin reporting your 2025 volunteerism efforts.
League and Midcoast FCU Offer Testimony in Support of LD 97
Earlier this week, the League and Midcoast FCU testified in support of LD 97, An Act to Facilitate the Improvement of Credit Scores of Residents of Department of Corrections Facilities. The bill was requested by the Maine Department of Corrections. It is based on work that Midcoast FCU is providing to some residents of Bolduc Correctional Facility, enabling them to use credit builder loans to acquire credit prior to their release.
Downeast CU Lending Expert Earns First Place in Nationwide Contest
Downeast CU lending expert Jason Theriault was recently awarded the Top Protector in the Nation by CU Certified during their annual competition, outranking 284 other lenders. Theriault has protected hundreds of credit union members from costly or unexpected auto repairs, preventing financial hardships and loss of transportation.
Atlantic FCU Foundation Grants $10,000 to My Place Teen Center
The Atlantic FCU Foundation has awarded a generous $10,000 grant to My Place Teen Center, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing a safe haven and essential resources for youth in the counties of Cumberland and York. This grant highlights the foundation’s ongoing commitment to supporting initiatives that foster financial literacy and essential life skills among young individuals.
UCU Scholarship Program Now Open, Celebrating Ten Years of Supporting Maine Students
Celebrating ten years of supporting Maine students’ pursuit of higher education, University CU (UCU) is pleased to announce applications are now open for the 2025 UCU Scholarship Program. Since launching the UCU Scholarship Program in 2016, UCU has awarded $64,000 in scholarships to students pursuing higher education across the University of Maine System and Maine Maritime Academy.

NorState FCU Is Going Wild to Help End Hunger
2025 credit union fundraising for the Campaign for Ending Hunger is well underway, and at NorState FCU, the team is going wild to support our signature initiative. The credit union recently launched a new effort to raise critical funds in support of hunger relief efforts in their community. For a minimum donation of just $10 to the Campaign, friends, family, and community members can take home a lovable, jungle-themed stuffed animal.
Virtual Workshop Will Train CUs on New Financial Education Curriculum
We are pleased to announce that Maine Credit Unions’ new adult financial education curriculum is now available! Credit union volunteers can easily utilize this turnkey resource at food pantries, rotary clubs, and other community organizations.
