Putts, pens propel Convention fundraising to new plateau

Fundraising at the 2016 Maine Credit Union League's Annual Meeting & Convention can, perhaps, best be described with the letter "p."  Thanks to a 'p'owerful start with a sold-out field of golfers and record sponsorship support, the Annual Convention Golf Tournament at Belgrade Lakes Golf Club on Thursday, May 19, had raised a record of nearly $73,000 for the Maine Credit Unions' Campaign for Ending Hunger, just under $15,000 more than last year's previous high.  Special thanks to major sponsors of the event including Synergent, the Maine Credit Union League, CUSO Home Lending, CUNA Mutual Group, Tricorp FCU, WGTECH, Jwaala, Equinox, Insurance Trust, Consolidated Solutions, Maine State CU, Kasasa, O'Rourke Associates, OTT Communications, Town & Country FCU, GHM Agency, Norman, Hanson & DeTroy, LLC, Atlantic FCU, Route 66 Auto Warranty, Systems Engineering, Par 4/EMC2, Acadia Auto Auctions and Fairpoint Communications.

'P'ens picked up where 'p'utters left off for fundraising as Friday, May 20, featured convention-goers using pens to fill out raffle tickets for Ending Hunger and CULAC, and to bid upon thousands of dollars worth of items available at the Silent Auction for Ending Hunger and the CULAC Super 6.

"It was nice to see such strong support for all of the fundraising activities associated with Convention.  Attendees, sponsors and contributors where very generous in their donations and contributions.  These two causes are important to Maine's credit unions and raising nearly $85,000 combined is a significant amount.  We appreciate the generosity of all involved," stated Jon Paradise, VP of Governmental & Public Affairs for the Maine Credit Union League.

Between the raffles and two Silent Auctions, nearly $7,000 was raised for Ending Hunger and nearly $3,000 for CULAC.  Collectively, the three-day Convention fundraising total was nearly $80,000 for the Maine Credit Unions' Campaign for Ending Hunger, and $3,000 for CULAC.  Needless to say, the fundraising results left everyone feeling 'p'retty 'p'leased.
