CU News & Events


Credit unions from around the state are making the most of their summer. Between member appreciation days, fitness challenges, work anniversaries, and philanthropic outreach efforts, CUs have been keeping busy at a time when many people in the state take time off. Here is a look at what some of our CUs were up to in July:

  • Patty Michaud, an Indirect Loan Officer at Acadia FCU, celebrated her 30th work anniversary with the CU on July 10. Congrats, Patty!
  • In early July, Atlantic FCU spent a week teaching the Magic Dragons Summer Camp about finances.
  • Throughout the month of July, Bangor FCU welcomed registrations for their 7th Annual Ending Hunger in Maine Golf Tournament, being held on September 14 at the Hermon Meadow Golf Club. Save the date and join them in support of a great cause!
  • Brewer FCU collected pasta and sauce through July 31 for C.H.E.F.S. Pantry in Holden.
  • Capital Area FCU raised funds for Special Olympics Maine. For $1, members were invited to play cornhole, and those members who had a lucky shot landing on the board were entered to win four lobsters.
  • Casco FCU collected back-to-school supplies for the Gorham Food Pantry.
  • Central Maine CU presented a $3,000 check to RSU 16 at a ceremony at Camp Connor in Poland. Their $3,000 donation will help fund the costs of the school district’s summer meals program.
  • Changing Seasons FCU held their annual community BBQ on July 26, with food, fun, and giveaways!
  • Staff at Community CU held a Casual Dress for a Cause event during the third week of July. All of the donations that were collected were donated to the Lewiston-Auburn Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce’s Stuff the Bus Toy Drive.
  • Connected CU held a Summer Loan Spectacular. Anyone who brought an auto loan to the CU for financing in July was entered to win $2,019.
  • The entry period for cPort CU’s Calendar Photo Contest came to a close on July 31. The photographer who wins the grand prize, which will be announced soon, will receive $150 and be featured on the front of the CU’s calendar.
  • Cumberland County FCU’s Ryan Grund completed the Carrabassett Backcountry Cycle Challenge on June 13. Grund pedaled 32.47 miles in just under 5 hours. Way to go, Ryan!
  • Construction continued at Dirigo FCU’s new branch in Lewiston. The foundation has been poured, the frame has been built, and the branch is expected to open in late 2019.
  • Downeast CU launched their new mobile app on July 30. The app has enhanced functionality, innovative features, and now matches the CU’s new branding.
  • Eastmill FCU welcomed back a familiar face. Amanda Fitzherbert re-joined the staff at the CU’s Patten branch. Welcome back, Amanda!
  • Guided by Crab Apple Whitewater, Evergreen CU staff, family, and friends hit the Kennebec River for some whitewater rafting on July 14.
  • Five County CU celebrated three Member Appreciation Days last month. The Lisbon branch celebrated on July 12, the Topsham branch celebrated on July 19, and the Brunswick branch celebrated on July 26.
  • Franklin-Somerset FCU teamed up with Hammond Tractor Company to help their members get “traction” on new tractor financing.
  • Gardiner FCU sold cash calendars during the month of July. Members who purchased a calendar are now eligible to be a daily winner throughout August. Prizes range from $100-$300 a day, with a total of $2,600 being awarded.
  • Great Falls FCU took time out to recognize staff birthdays happening in July.
  • Infinity FCU collected items to replenish shelters and pantries last month. The CU delivered toiletries and baby goods to the City of Portland on July 30.
  • Katahdin FCU held a drawing for four Red Sox tickets with proceeds benefiting the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • KSW FCU held a Cookout for a Cause on July 19. At the special event, the CU raised money for Special Olympics Maine.
  • KV FCU celebrated reaching 1,000 Facebook likes on July 15!
  • Lewiston Municipal FCU shared tips for preventing fraud in their summer member newsletter.
  • Lincoln Maine FCU spent the day participating in the Lincoln Loon Festival on July 20.
  • Lisbon Community FCU donated 20 gently-used computers to the Lisbon High School’s IT program on July 31.
  • Maine Family FCU launched their 4th Annual School Supply Drive in July. The CU is collecting backpacks and school supplies to help local children in need during the upcoming school year.
  • Staff from Maine Savings FCU participated in the Wicked Muddy Mainer. They competed against other financial institutions for a chance to win a $1,000 donation to a charity of their choice.
  • Maine State CU’s Risk Manager Adam Kavanagh graduated from CUNA Management School with honors and earned the designation of Certified Credit Union Executive last month. Congratulations, Adam!
  • Midcoast FCU provided member Tim Dresden $100 for “going green” and enrolling in eStatements.
  • Monmouth FCU held a Members and First Responders Appreciation Day on July 19. They served ice cream and hot dogs, and gave away prizes.
  • New Dimensions FCU presented a check for $16,741.55 to the Maine Children’s Cancer Program on July 31. The funds presented were raised at their 6th Annual Cruisin’ for a Cure Car Show.
  • NorState FCU has been busy helping the Aroostook Chapter of Credit Unions prepare for their annual golf outing to benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger. This year’s event is only one week away!
  • Northeast CU’s Kennebunk team demonstrated their support for a local Saco woman who was hurt in a motorcycle accident over the 4th of July weekend. The team wore GoPeggyGo t-shirts.
  • Oxford FCU awarded scholarships to two local college-bound students last month.
  • OTIS FCU recognized member Tanya Ladd Longley as the winner of their random summer drawing. This was done as part of an effort to solicit input on special summer locations in their area.
  • Team PCFCU Lumberjacks, representing staff from Penobscot County FCU, also participated in the Wicked Muddy Mainer on July 13.
  • PeoplesChoice CU has begun offering Lightning Pay. Members with direct deposit at PCU will receive their paycheck up to two calendar days early.
  • Sabattus Regional CU’s Ashley Clifford and Police Officer Chris Miller took pies in the face during Sabattus Fun Fest on July 11. All proceeds from the event benefited the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Saco Valley CU employee Kristy Brown painted a beautiful chair to benefit Saco Maine Street. Kristy’s chair will be up for auction at the end of the summer, but until then, you can check out her artwork on Main Street.
  • Sebasticook Valley FCU has been busy planning their 1st annual giant yard sale to benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger. The big event takes place this weekend, August 11.
  • The County FCU braved the 90º heat to pass out frozen popsicles during the Maine Potato Blossom Festival Parade on July 19.
  • Town & Country FCU held two Member Appreciation Cookouts last month. The Forest Ave. branch celebrated on July 19 and the Mill Creek branch celebrated on July 25.
  • Trademark FCU presented a personal finance management course to employees in Hannaford’s corporate office in mid-July.
  • TruChoice FCU and Hot 104.7 partnered up for a special live broadcast from Beech Ridge Motor Speedway’s Thursday Thunder on July 18.
  • University CU announced the promotion of long-time Manager Derek Hebert to Business Lending Officer. Congratulations, Derek!
  • Winslow Community FCU provided free shuttle rides in their “Cash Cab Golf Cart” to attendees at the Taste of Waterville.
  • Winthrop Area FCU was a Gold Sponsor of the 1920 Mystery at the Mansion event benefiting the Betsy Ann Ross House of Hope.
