Credit Union Impact

Several election results are especially noteworthy for Maine’s credit union community, including changes in congressional representation and victories by candidates who have direct ties to credit unions.

U.S. Senate: Longtime credit union champion Senator Susan Collins was defeated by Senator-Elect Troy Jackson. The League is grateful for Senator Collins’ decades of support and advocacy on behalf of credit unions and looks forward to working with Senator-Elect Jackson to continue Maine’s longstanding tradition of supporting the credit union movement in Washington.

Maine Senate District 4: Chad Perkins (R), a board member at Maine Highlands FCU, won his election to represent Senate District 4.

Maine House District 33: Representative Ken Fredette (R), a board member at Sebasticook Valley FCU, won reelection to represent House District 33.

Maine Senate District 31: Senator Donna Bailey (D), Chair of the Legislature’s Health Coverage, Insurance and Financial Services Committee, won reelection in Senate District 31. This committee often oversees legislation of particular importance to Maine’s credit unions.
