Wednesday, May 14 brought the Campaign for Ending Hunger’s Annual Golf Tournament back to Purpoodock Club in Cape Elizabeth for the second year—and credit unions and partners from across Maine gathered to show their support. There was not a cloud in the sky as golfers enjoyed a day of fun, comradery, and charity.
Kicking off the League’s Elevate conference festivities, the tournament saw 140 different golfers and more than 10 volunteers for a successful day on the greens. The tournament raises significant funds every year to feed hungry Mainers in need, and that would not be possible without the support of many credit union and vendor participants who sponsor and/or join us on the course.
Despite the tournament raising important funds for charity, top performing golfers and teams were recognized with prizes at the culmination of golf play during the reception. Winners included:
- First-Place Team Gross: CU Insurance Solutions
- Second-Place Team Gross: Dirigo FCU
- First-Place Team Net Score: Portland Safe
- Second-Place Team Net Score: NDBS, LLC
- Male Longest Drive: Nate DelGiudice
- Female Longest Drive: Jessica Scamman
- Male Closest to the Pin: Jason Jendrasko
- Female Closest to the Pin: Maria Wooten
Golfers provided additional support to hunger relief initiatives through optional fundraisers. On hole #2, players could “roll to end hunger” for $10, with all funds benefitting MaineHealth’s Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital’s efforts to address food insecurity with their patients. The Hospital will receive $1,430 as a result. Similarly, Synergent’s Client Success Managers held a putting contest on the putting greens. For $5, participants were entered into a raffle for a $100 Golf & Ski Warehouse. The putting contest brought in $535 for the Campaign. The Westbrook Food Pantry will also benefit from nonperishable food items brought by attendees as part of the Cans for a Cause initiative.
The League is grateful to all who showed the Campaign some love. Our tournament would not be possible without all our wonderful supporters, and it makes a huge difference when it comes to getting food into the hands of those in need. In a time when food pantries are seeing increased demand, fundraising is crucial to ensure Mainers have access to the healthy, nutritious food they need to survive and thrive.
We hope you will consider joining us for 2026! Photos highlighting the day can be viewed on the League’s website.
