(From WABI-TV) – Multiple schools met at Cony High School for a simulation on how to properly budget certain expenses.
The Kennebec Valley Chapter of Credit Unions put on the event for financial literacy month. They also say it’s a perfect time with graduation coming up.
Students were given a random credit score and had to go to different tables for housing, transportation, and more to learn how to correctly budget.
“I think it’s important because a lot of the times schools don’t necessarily incorporate learning about money in their curriculums and such, and I think students forget that once they enter the real world, they are hit with a lot of these expenses that they haven’t had in the past when they were in high school living with their parents,” said Marketing Coordinator for the Gardiner Federal Credit Union Anna Toman. “So, it’s super important for students to kind of just learn how to properly handle their money and what they can’t afford and what they can afford and kind of prioritize and really budget and plan for their futures.“
The event also included The Wheel of Life which could include a positive or negative impact to show the importance of saving.
