League Awards Spotlight: Jeannette G. Morin Outstanding CU Employee Award

Throughout the nomination period for the League’s 2025 awards program, we will feature an award category to help credit unions identify individuals who are deserving of a special honor. There is no better way to demonstrate your appreciation for someone special at your credit union than by nominating them for a League award.

Credit union employees are at the very heart of the credit union movement. From frontline tellers and member service representatives to those in the call centers and everyone in the back office supporting day-to-day operations, credit unions could not thrive without their dedicated staff. Embodying the “People Helping Spirit” in all they do, credit union employees demonstrate excellence, leadership, commitment, and a love for community that uplifts those around them—helping create a better tomorrow for all.

Each year during the Awards Ceremony of our League’s annual Elevate conference, we recognize exceptional talent within our industry. This year, you once again have the chance to nominate a colleague you and your credit union treasure for the Jeannette G. Morin Outstanding Credit Union Employee Award.

Nominators can complete the form on the League’s website by March 14 to submit a peer for consideration. Nominations should detail the nominee’s leadership, personal commitment to the credit union that may go beyond their role, significant contributions to the credit union (and beyond), and personal characteristics that make them stand out. Please feel free to reference the best practices guidelines for further assistance in pulling together your nomination.

In 2024, Katahdin FCU’s Lisa Martin, Chief Operating Officer, was recognized as “Outstanding Credit Union Employee.” Her CEO, Tina Jamo, nominated Martin for always going the extra mile to serve the credit union’s members, community, and employees on a daily basis. Jamo accoladed Martin in her nomination because “her willingness to learn and her ‘can do’ positive attitude are inspiring.” She refers to Martin as a “servant leader” because she is someone who leads by example, does not expect staff to do anything she herself would not do, and often takes on responsibilities at their smaller credit union that the COO of a larger credit union likely would not. Martin’s strong work ethic is exceptional, and her patience is impressive.

Submitting your colleagues for the Jeannette G. Morin Award is a perfect way to show them how special they are not only to you, but to your credit union, your community, and this industry as a whole. The award will be presented on Friday, May 16 at the League’s 87th Elevate: Annual Meeting & Convention with the other annual awards.
