Credit unions dedicate thousands of hours toward volunteerism each year—and Maine’s credit unions are no exception. Volunteers demonstrate the shared People Helping People philosophy by offering assistance to their communities in a wide variety of ways, from hosting fundraisers to donating time to local organizations such as food banks and pantries, animal shelters, Special Olympics Maine, and so much more. These interactions have lasting, meaningful impacts on communities and neighbors across the state.
Our League collects and quantifies our credit unions’ collective philanthropic efforts to showcase the dedication of Maine’s credit union movement through stories shared with the media, political leaders, and the public—but we can’t do that without your help! With February just around the corner, now is the perfect time to report your credit union’s January volunteer hours. It is recommended to record your hours by the 10th of each month for the previous month to ensure all hours are tracked throughout the year both for ease and accuracy.
We recently shared that the Volunteer Tracking tool underwent a name change from the CUs Share for ME program—but the fun hasn’t stopped there! A new and improved tracking form has been launched on the League’s website to allow your credit union more visibility and control when it comes to the hours you submit. The same guidelines apply, but the switch to Microsoft Forms enables anyone submitting hours to both receive a copy of their submission as well as edit their responses. This change helps your credit union know what has already been reported and make any adjustments that are necessary. You are also no longer required to select the types of philanthropy completed by your volunteers; the guidelines outline examples of what does and does not count towards your hours. The League does still have access to all volunteer hours submitted through the previous form.
Credit unions with the most volunteer hours reported are recognized for their efforts annually in February at the League’s Ending Hunger Results Luncheon. We look forward to celebrating the spirit of People Helping People in just over one week!
