The Atlantic FCU Foundation has awarded a generous $10,000 grant to My Place Teen Center, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing a safe haven and essential resources for youth in the counties of Cumberland and York. This grant highlights the foundation’s ongoing commitment to supporting initiatives that foster financial literacy and essential life skills among young individuals.
My Place Teen Center provides a year-round, free, out-of-school-time program for youth ages 10-18. My Place Teen Center offers academic support, character and leadership development, job and life skills training, and a focus on financial literacy, all designed to encourage resilience and self-esteem in its participants.
“The Foundation Board is impressed by the innovative programs of the My Place Teen Center,” shared Chris McGorrill, President of the Atlantic FCU Foundation. “They are helping kids build a brighter financial future by providing job training; daily meals; plus vital life skills in leadership, budgeting, and financial literacy.”
The $10,000 grant will be utilized to support My Place Teen Center’s initiatives, including purchasing items for the Teen Store and offsetting expenses associated with the Restaurant Job Training Program. Through the Teen Store, teens learn leadership and budgeting skills by managing a debit and credit system and earning points to run the store. Additionally, the grant will help support the production of 22,000 meals annually, addressing food insecurity by providing daily, year-round meals and job skills acquisition to empower youth.
Donna Dwyer, President and CEO of My Place Teen Center, adds, “A transformative grant of this magnitude allows us to serve our kids with impact and fidelity. We are thrilled to be chosen to partner with the Atlantic Foundation!”
