Downeast CU lending expert Jason Theriault was recently awarded the Top Protector in the Nation by CU Certified during their annual competition, outranking 284 other lenders. Theriault has protected hundreds of credit union members from costly or unexpected auto repairs, preventing financial hardships and loss of transportation.

CU Certified is a company based out of New Hampshire that Downeast CU partners with to offer vehicle service contracts to members. They offer best-in-class automobile mechanical breakdown coverage, which pays for the replacement of covered parts and the labor to install the failed covered parts.

“Here at Downeast, we take a lot of pride in making sure our members are taken care of,” shared Theriault. “Helping them get into reliable vehicles, and knowing that they’ll be protected, is one of my favorite parts of my job.”

The competition started back in 2021, with Theriault taking second place that year, protecting nearly 50 members. In 2022, 2023, and 2024 he earned first place, competing against 39 other credit unions across the country and protecting hundreds of members.

“We are so proud of Jason and feel very lucky to have him on the Downeast team,” stated Joanne Cushing, Downeast CU Director of Lending Sales. “He consistently goes the extra mile and is known for helping our members find the perfect vehicle, even car shopping for them. Our members trust him and really value his expertise.”

Tonia Lanier, SVP of Lending and Branch Operations, goes on to say, “Jason is an asset to our team and our membership. His passion for helping people paired with his belief in this product is instrumental in his success.”

Congratulations, Jason!
