An exciting, tasty, and fun-filled opportunity to fundraise for Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger is just around the corner, and your credit union can easily get involved! Saturday, August 24 is National Waffle Day, marking the anniversary of the day the waffle iron was patented by Cornelius Swartwout on the same date in 1869. This is a great chance to engage with members while raising awareness about food insecurity in our home state.
If your credit union would like to participate in celebrating National Waffle Day, opt to serve breakfast to your members in-branch for a small fee. Whip up some batter; grab a couple of waffle irons; find a staff volunteer or two to man the table; and prepare a hot, fresh, and delicious breakfast treat complete with toppings of choice: maple syrup, chocolate syrup, blueberry syrup, chocolate chips, sliced fruit, whipped cream, sprinkles, and more! End your members’ hunger while also fundraising to end hunger for Maine’s food insecure population.
Credit unions across the state are committed to championing the Campaign for Ending Hunger through a wide array of fundraisers and charitable giving year-round—and it pays off! Last year, the Campaign surpassed its goal of raising $1 million in a single year by raising over $1.2 million. While this is an incredible achievement all on its own, we have a goal to do it again in 2024. Help the Campaign reach its 2024 fundraising goal one waffle at a time! Every dollar makes a difference.
