Community CU Celebrates Another Successful Recycle Day

It was all smiles for the volunteers helping Kommunity Kritters.

On April 20, Community CU hosted its annual Community Recycle Day at its Auburn Branch. This year’s event marked the credit union’s 15th year holding Recycle Day, which offers the community a variety of options to reduce, reuse, repurpose, and recycle resources in honor of Earth Day.

Several local partners and volunteers joined the credit union to make the event a success including Androscoggin Hospice Thrift Store, Kaydenz Kitchen, Kommunity Kritters, North Coast Services, Shredding On Site, and Stratham Tire. Thanks to everyone’s hard work and efforts, the following was recycled:

  • North Coast Services prevented 2,370 lbs. of electronic items such as CPUs/laptops, printers, monitors and televisions from heading to landfills.
  • Stratham Tire’s truck was filled with tires that will be repurposed for projects by another Maine business.
  • Shredding On Site professionally destroyed over 4,000 pounds of personal and confidential documents on-site, protecting individuals and businesses from identity theft.
  • Kaydenz Kitchen accepted clothing for adults and children, toiletry items, non-perishable items, monetary donations, and more.
  • Kommunity Kritters acquired pet food, cat litter, toys, and beds to help some special four-legged emotional support animals in the community community. Due to the generosity of local partners and community members, bottle and can donations totaling $78.15 were also raised for Kommunity Kritters.

Numbers and community feedback are validating the event’s growth year over year. Despite the rainy weather, nearly half of all Community CU employees volunteered at Community Recycle Day.

“This was an incredibly successful Earth Day celebration,” shared Betsy Sibley, Chief Marketing Officer at Community CU. “Erin Dunn-Kimball, Community’s Marketing Specialist, does a wonderful job collaborating with area organizations and trying to find new partners for the recycling needs she hears community members asking for each year. Next year’s Community Recycle Day event is already scheduled for April 26, 2025.
