Financial Literacy Conference Registration Opens for Maine Credit Unions

When it comes to the various skills one can learn in life, few are more important than the ability to effectively manage finances. That is why the Maine Credit Union League has been a strong advocate of financial education outreach to members of all ages. To help credit unions better reach their membership with outreach efforts, the League is inviting those with a passion for financial education to the Financial Literacy Conference on October 26 at the Credit Union Service Center in Westbrook, from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. This event will be open to any Maine credit union employee at no cost. Registrants may be placed on a waiting list if the number of individuals interested in attending is greater than the number of seats available. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.

“The conference will offer insight on engaging both youth and adults in conversations about finances,” said Jake Holmes, the League’s Financial Literacy Outreach Coordinator. “Along with learning the best practices on reaching each generation with tailored education, attendees will hear how to organize workshops—including how to get people to show up and actively participate.”

Speakers and Topics:

Lee Silber – Generation We: Reaching and Teaching Each Generation

Each generation learns differently and has divergent goals. This program addresses the best ways to reach and teach each generation about financial literacy with specific tips and techniques. With an emphasis on Gen-Y and Gen-Z, we’ll look at best practices for each individual generation and discuss what works for all generations. This is a lively, fun, and activity-filled program with unique ideas and information attendees can use right away for improved results.

Juli Lewis, CUDE, CMPFinCap, CCUFC, CCUE – Getting Them to Show Up is Half the Battle…Win It!

We know that financial education isn’t the most exciting topic and can even be a little intimidating. Join us for an open discussion on the challenges we all face in getting people to our workshops. This 30-year credit union veteran has not only been in the trenches but has also worked with credit unions all over the U.S. to make the blood, sweat, and tears we put into our sessions have an equal return. You’ll take away best practices on how to market your workshops, who to market them to, and where to best-reach your target audience.
