CU News and Events – July Edition

Maine’s credit unions are making the most out of their summer. Between member appreciation celebrations, fundraisers, #ILoveMyCreditUnion Day festivities, and other community events, People Helping People was on full display. Below, our League offers an inside look at what some of our credit unions were up to this July:

  • Acadia FCU announced three $2,000 scholarship recipients. Congratulations to 2023 graduates Genevieve Michaud-Naranja, Nolan Raymond, and Samuel Lausier and best of luck pursuing your college education this fall!
  • The Atlantic FCU Foundation presented donations to two deserving organizations in July as part of their ongoing efforts to support hunger relief work in the state. Tedford Housing received $1,560.87 and Community Food Pantry received $2,497.40.
  • Staff from Bangor FCU came together to fundraise for the Campaign for Ending Hunger. A raffle was held internally between employees across all branches of the credit union—raising $1,300.
  • Brewer FCU sponsored a hole in the Greater Bangor Association of Realtors’ 2023 golf tournament to benefit Habitat for Humanity.
  • Out with the old and in with the new! Capital Area FCU launched a new digital banking experience in place of its older online and mobile banking offerings. The credit union is excited to offer new functionality and features in a singular platform.
  • Wednesday, July 26 brought the Beals on Wheels ice cream truck to Casco FCU as part of their member appreciation event. They offered free scoops to members, along with plenty of Casco swag!
  • Central Maine FCU awarded Mrs. Moulton from Regional School Unit 16 their Summer Reading Program grant. She plans to use the $1,000 donation to purchase prizes for summer readers who check off items from their “Book-it” list.
  • The Annual BBQ returned to Changing Seasons FCU! They grilled burgers, dogs, and wings.
  • A successful Hot Dog Days event was held at a local park in Lewiston by the Ending Hunger Committee at Community CU on #ILoveMyCreditUnion Day. The team worked hard to partner with community businesses to secure a multitude of donations to host a fun event for the community.
  • Connected CU began a Summer Fun Raffle in credit union branches. The drawing will take place in mid-August for an LED lighted cornhole set and a table tennis set. All proceeds will benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • cPort CU welcomed their 2023 summer interns! Joe Ardito, Contessa Frazzitta, Kailey Clark, Liam McDonnell, Tyler Baker, Eliot Bramble, and Brady Hoglund join the Branch Operations team on their break from college.
  • Cumberland County FCU sponsored the Diaper Derby for toddlers and crawlers at the Yarmouth Clam Festival. Prizes were awarded for first- and second-place winners in three divisions: Crawlers (1-12 months), Toddlers (13-24 months), and Toddlers (25-36 months).
  • Exciting changes are coming to Dirigo FCU’s South Paris branch location! The credit union announced plans to begin renovations on August 9. We cannot wait to see the branch’s new look.
  • In honor of #ILoveMyCreditUnion Day, Downeast CU asked members to fill out name signs in branch locations. For each completed sign, the credit union donated $1 to the Campaign for Ending Hunger. Each branch also offered special sweet treats to members.
  • Eastmill FCU took to Facebook to remind members to protect their personal information by regularly checking financial statements and transaction histories, as well as changing PINs frequently.
  • Congratulations to the team at Evergreen CU! The credit union was announced as The Windham Eagle’s Choice Award for Best Credit Union!
  • The Pittston Fair welcomed face painting and balloon twisting from Five County CU on July 16.
  • Franklin-Somerset FCU found success in upgrading to their new digital banking platform after retiring the old one. They collaborated with many members to ensure a smooth transition and saw nearly 50% of users signed up in just the first week.
  • In preparation for the upcoming school year, Gardiner FCU started collecting school supplies in their lobby for area schools.
  • Great Falls FCU posted information on its website to help members spot ATM skimmers.
  • Infinity CU wished long-time employees Sandy Cloutier (37 years) and Pat Jordan (14 years) happy retirements as their careers with Infinity CU wrapped up at the end of the month. The credit union and members will miss them both and wish them the best of luck in the years ahead.
  • Katahdin FCU held a member appreciation barbeque on July 3. They also participated in the Millinocket 4th of July parade with a float designed to “Honor Our Hometown Heroes.”
  • Credit union-branded hats were available at KSW FCU for a suggested $10 donation while supplies lasted. Proceeds benefited the Campaign for Ending Hunger, Special Olympics, and KSW Cares.
  • With the drive-thru remaining open, KV FCU temporarily closed the inside of their Oakland branch from July 24-26 to work on renovations. The credit union is excited about the changes!
  • Lincoln Maine FCU hosted an 80s party at the Lincoln Loon Festival featuring a dunk tank to soak employees, a kid’s duck fishing game, music, and plenty of food.
  • With their Annual Basket Raffle on the horizon, Lisbon Community FCU solicited donations of completed gift baskets as a way to fight hunger in Maine.
  • Ahead of the August race day, Maine Family FCU proudly announced its sponsorship of the Safe Voices 5K/10K.
  • Saturday, July 15 was Maine Highlands FCU’s Yard Sale for Ending Hunger. They encouraged those who could not attend to donate online if they were interested in supporting this great cause.
  • Maine Savings FCU hosted a charity auction for a pair of Premium Box Seat tickets to the Santana show at the Maine Savings Amphitheater on August 2.
  • Once again, Maine State CU sponsored MaineGeneral Health’s Day of Hope as the Survivor Sponsor.
  • Midcoast FCU shared the excitement of their nomination for Best Credit Union in the Midcoast and Best Employer in the Midcoast on Facebook.
  • Congratulations to Ainsely Foster and Lorelei Bonney. They are the recipients of Milestones FCU’s 2023 scholarships!
  • New Dimensions FCU shared the results of their popular Cruisin’ for a Cure Car Show to benefit the Maine Children’s Cancer Program. The ninth annual event featured more than 70 dedicated car owners and raised $20,966.
  • NorState FCU shared their Campaign for Ending Hunger shirt and sweatshirt fundraiser with the general public. The items can be purchased from their online store.
  • All month long, Northeast CU held a Nourish Your Community Food Pantry Drive in branches.
  • OTIS FCU announced a new opportunity for listeners to hear from the credit union’s Director of Marketing on 106.9 or 107.5 Frank FM from July 10 going forward.
  • The Western Foothills Kids Association’s summer camp spent ample time with staff from Oxford FCU this month! The credit union partnered with them to present financial education and engaging activities to the first graders.
  • PeoplesChoice CU and Saco Valley CU helped fund the Biddeford Little League Majors All Stars team’s trip to the state tournament in Hermon.
  • Nearly 180 people came out to join Sabattus Regional CU at the annual Sabattus Fun Fest at the Town Hall. Participants enjoyed a barbeque, games, music, and more thanks to donations from local businesses.
  • Sarah and Justice from Seaboard FCU celebrated their work anniversaries. Sarah marked 13 years at the credit union while Justice marked six. Thank you both for your commitment and service to your credit union!
  • In their summer newsletter, Sebasticook Valley FCU offered tips for managing credit card use.
  • The County FCU awarded eight scholarships to the following graduates within the credit union’s field of membership: Ellie Clark, Jenna Cochran, Kassidy Gorneault, Lindsey Himes, Madalyn Quirk, Emily Straetz, Gavin Tawfall, and Micah Calhoun.
  • For the 12th consecutive year, Town & Country FCU sponsored and supported the Maine Cancer Foundation’s annual Tri for a Cure fundraiser. In addition to hosting the Survivor’s Breakfast and staff volunteering at the kick-off expo, four employees participated in the Tri and raised over $8,000. Combined with the credit union’s sponsorship, Town & Country FCU contributed over $23,000 to the Foundation.
  • In hopes of financially supporting longtime members Laura and Carlos after a devastating house fire in May, Trademark FCU shared the GoFundMe link online and asked those who are able to donate. Funds will go toward purchasing clothing, necessities, and a new home.
  • TruChoice FCU posted a variety of activities on their social media pages for members to do without breaking the bank.
  • A team from University CU volunteered at Habitat for Humanity’s current Orono build.
  • Two big work anniversaries were celebrated at Winthrop Area FCU. Darlene and Andrea both reached 20 years with the credit union. Thank you both for your service and dedication!
