UCU Celebrates National Volunteer Week

In celebration of National Volunteer Week, University CU (UCU) participated in multiple events focused on volunteerism.

With 90 employees gathered in Orono and Scarborough for the credit union’s annual staff meeting on April 17, UCU used the opportunity to help local kids and teens. Employees assembled more than 1,000 care packs for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Maine and other community organizations.

“When people come together, great things can happen,” said Renee Ouellette, President and CEO at UCU. “As a credit union with members and employees from all around the state of Maine, it isn’t often that our employees are gathered all at the same time, which is why we wanted to use our annual all-hands meeting to do something good for our community and send the message that UCU and our community partners, like the Boys & Girls Club, are here for you.”

At UCU’s monthly board meeting, board members were recognized for their dedication and commitment to the credit union. UCU’s volunteer board members spend many hours each month to support the credit union and the credit union movement and were celebrated for their efforts at the meeting.

Additionally, UCU team members were seen at local events during the week, cheering on race participants at the University of Maine Healthy High 5K on April 20 in Orono, and on campus over the weekend to welcome new students at Admitted Students’ Day.

Being mindful of the impact that volunteerism can have, UCU team members have a benefit of volunteer time off to help foster the community impact and support that is the foundation of UCU’s purpose. Many UCU staff have regular volunteering opportunities and become part of the greater team impacting our communities through those organizations.
