CUNA and the FHFA to Hold Credit Union Listening Session on March 15

(From CUNA) – In 2022, the FHFA began a comprehensive review of the FHLBank System, holding roundtable discussions and listening sessions across the country. To ensure that the credit union perspective on the FHLBank System is heard during this process, CUNA is partnering with the FHFA to hold a credit union-specific listening session on March 15, from 2:30 – 4:00 pm.

What Will the Listening Session Cover?

Credit unions can review an outline of the discussion by clicking here. The outline poses broad questions about the FHLBank System’s role in housing finance and affordable housing, how it and specific programs can be improved, where funding would be best used, and more.

How Can Credit Unions Participate?

There will be an opportunity for a limited number of credit unions to speak at the session, and for others to listen in.

Who Should Speak?

CUNA is actively seeking credit unions that are engaged with the FHLBank System and make use of its products and services. We are also interested in hearing from credit unions that have examined whether to become more engaged, and encountered barriers or programmatic shortfalls that led them to decide against it.

If I Am Interested in Speaking, What Should I Do?

CUNA anticipates capping speaking credit unions to around 20, however, that number is flexible if more or less would serve the quality of the discussion. To ensure diversity among participants, CUNA will screen speakers with a short phone call. If you’re interested, send us a message before 5:00 pm eastern on Thursday, March 9.

If I Am Interested in Listening, What Should I Do?

Email CUNA and ask to be included on the invite to listen in. If you have thoughts you want to share to be included in a written response, CUNA can take those. Feel free to add them to your message.
