Get to Know Your Local State Representatives

Credit union advocacy in Augusta helps our movement achieve our public policy goals. With a new Legislature already sworn in and beginning their work, our League wants to provide your credit union an opportunity to meet your state representatives. Equally important is the chance for them to hear from you about issues that matter to you and your members.

We have organized a series of legislative meet and greets with local elected officials throughout the state and hope you will join us. Meetings will take place on the following dates in these locations:

To participate, please click the meeting location you would like to attend above and register on the League’s website. There is no cost to attend. At these events, we hope to share with legislators our values and stories. Currently, the Governmental Affairs team is collecting stories on how the Member Business Lending Cap has impacted credit unions and their members. If your credit union has a story to share, please submit it on the League’s website.

If you have questions about any of the upcoming legislative meet and greets, please contact Krista Simonis, Director of Government Affairs.

News From Augusta:

On December 21, the Legislature held a public hearing to consider LD 3, The Emergency Winter Relief Plan. After seven hours of public testimony, the bill unanimously passed out of the joint Appropriations and Financial Affairs Committee. The bill now heads to the floor of both chambers for consideration. If the bill receives the necessary 2/3 vote in each chamber, it will go into effect immediately. However, relief checks are unlikely to be distributed to Mainers until sometime in February.
