The Canadian Pacific (CP) Holiday Train visited Brownville Junction on November 23 for its first cross-continent tour in three years. Representatives from Maine Highlands FCU were in attendance to support the cause and partake in the festivities.
The train tour raises money, food, and awareness for food banks in communities within the CP network. Since its first roll down the tracks in 1999, the CP Holiday Train has raised over $21 million and collected five million pounds of food.
CP does not charge people to attend their events, but encourages participants to make a cash or non-perishable food donation to a local food bank or pantry. That’s exactly what Maine Highlands FCU did, providing a donation to Dyer’s Hope House Food Pantry in Milo.
“When a company as large as the Canadian Pacific Railroad actually rolls into a small, rural town with its Holiday Train to call attention to the need of hunger in our area, it not only boosts the spirits of those in attendance, it also helps to boost the coffers of the local food cupboards during a critical time of year,” said Rhonda Taylor, President/CEO of Maine Highlands FCU. “Our credit union was elated to be a part of this event.”
