An Election Season Message From Robert Caverly

Across Maine, voters are starting to receive their absentee ballots and, in some communities, early in-person voting already has begun. Maine’s gubernatorial and midterm campaigns have officially rounded the corner and are coming down the home stretch. There will be many close races here in Maine and across the nation. While there is less than a month left before voters head to the polls, there are still many ads to be aired, mailers to be dropped, and doors to be knocked on. No one really knows how many twists and turns this election cycle might still bring.

At the League, we are ready for the election and have developed several resources that credit unions can utilize to better prepare their members and employees before they cast their ballots. These materials can be found on the League’s website.

The League’s Governmental Affairs team also is available to answer questions or address concerns about the upcoming election. We are happy to be a trusted resource to anyone who is interested in learning more about the League’s endorsement policy, which candidates were endorsed, how to secure an absentee ballot, or how to vote early. Please feel free to email myself at rcaverly@mainecul.org or Ellen Parent at eparent@mainecul.org.

There are many important things we do together to advance the credit union movement, both here at home and across our country, but nothing we do matters more than getting out to vote. Don’t miss your opportunity to get your ballot counted on election night.

Soon we will be communicating and seeking input on what the League should accomplish during the next legislative session. In the meantime, we must support the process that chooses who will be serving in both the State House and Congress before we look to accomplish more. Elections matter. And they matter more when we are all engaged and active participants!
