On August 26, the federal eviction moratorium ended for everyone after it had been extended by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention. With many renters still in need of financial assistance, scammers are taking advantage of the panic caused by this situation.
Last week, the League spoke to WMTW Channel 8 about these types of scams and shared what renters need to know to protect themselves from fraud.
The League also offered advice on where renters can turn if they need assistance and reminded viewers to never share personal information or banking data, even if the person they are speaking with claims they want to help them.
