CUs Encouraged to Promote Virtual Financial Fitness Fairs This Fall

Amid rising COVID-19 numbers and the uncertainty of in-person teaching opportunities, Maine credit unions are encouraged to offer the new Virtual Financial Fitness Fair to their local schools this fall. The virtual fair was launched in April and utilizes Google Classroom, making it easily accessible for students following an in-person, hybrid, or remote learning model.

With low comfort levels, staff shortages, and ever-changing best practices and procedures, offering the virtual version of the Financial Fitness Fair in lieu of hosting an in-person fair this fall is recommended. Being able to offer the virtual fair helps credit unions maintain their relationships with schools and provides students with the financial education they need.

“We’ll continue to monitor the situation with COVID-19 into the spring fair season,” said Jake Holmes, the League’s Financial Literacy Outreach Coordinator. “Hosting in-person Financial Fitness Fairs is a pillar in our outreach efforts and we’ll return to hosting in-person budget simulations as soon as it’s safe for everyone involved.”

Credit unions are encouraged to share the remote learning tool on their websites and social media channels, and contact schools in their area to inform them about this free resource. In an effort to better explain what a Virtual Financial Fitness Fair is and how schools can have their students participate, the League created a Virtual Financial Fitness Fair Welcome Packet.

If your credit union has questions about the Virtual Financial Fitness Fair or would like to request a demo, please email Jake Holmes at jholmes@mainecul.org, or call 207.773.5671, ext 266.
